I've looked at this video frame by frame and i'm convinced it's fake.

The pup never moves a muscle and the yelping just doesn't sound right.

Opinions? Hoax or sick f***?

Strange, I don't see why it would be a hoax, but of course it could be.

As far as the puppy not moving it's about 8 weeks old, it wouldn't necessarily be moving about that much, plus it could be dead already, in which case the whelping would have to have been added on afterwards, which Snopes identifies as ultra clear sound for the camcorder the marines are probably using.

Either way it's sick, it's a video of a guy throwing a puppy off a cliff whether he really does it or not.

I can understand why it might be a hoax.

I think there are more than enough reasons to create something like that, in light of Iraq & Afghanistan.

I would hope that it is not real, though I know that killing people does tend to desensitize one to killing and death - I can clearly remember neighborhood friends sticking firecrackers up the behinds of toads as I was a boy and lighting them.

Not very nice for the Toads.

So it is very possible that the video is real. I mean, it is just a puppy. It doesn't take much thought or energy to toss it, if one is emotionally detached, or worse, has really been psychologically "hardened" or inured to death and suffering. In fact, such behavior is not unknown among those who have killed, especially younger men.

I find it interesting that of all the things that could have come out of Iraq or Afghanistan that could have been shocking, video-wise, that this should capture the headlines as it has.

I just typed a very long response to this whole thing. I had to erase it...

From now on if you are going to post stuff like this, then you need to put some type of disclaimer in the post! If I had not read Blaise's reply of what was going on and watched that video...I would have let loose a bit more.

Well, I didn't get to see the video as it appears to be gone now (or perhaps it's just a maintenance issue on Youtube at the mo') but I would like to have seen it - not out of some morbid fascination, but so I could form an opinion on whether or not this was fake.

I will say one thing - when you lift a puppy by the scruff of the neck in the correct manner, it holds itself still in that very position; this is an instinctive and predictable behaviour. The fact that it remains very still means nothing for this reason.

I also agree that even if it is fake, it is in terrible taste, but fake cruelty can hardly be considered as bad as genuine cruelty of this nature. Of course, it is hardly surprising that this has drawn more attention than numerous other scandalous videos coming out of Iraq... I mean, everybody loves puppies! o.O

What is being totally ignored here is what killing people does to a person.

That such a video would generate outrage, might be acceptable on the surface.

But one should realize that the "perps" are coming out of a combat zone.

This is just one of the many possible effects that war creates in people who have participated in them.
