hey there!
i have a dvd with video content on it. unfortunately, the video stops playing around 20 minutes, but continues at 25 due to a small scratch in the disc. however, this data is very important for me and i need to back it up. i can see that i cant obtain the part between 20 and 25, but is there a way to get the rest? when i just copy the contents to my HD, the drive freezes and windows gives me an error (damaged dvd etc.) and cancels. any advices here?

"remove scratches on cd" put that in google.

But you may want to try a capture first. Again in google "record from windows media player"

you can probably use something like Virtual Dub to capture the video and then edit it to remove the stuff between 20 and 25.

I've used the brasso trick on the screen of an iPod Video before and it worked well.

Hey,

There was a video link on youtube [cant quite remember but search on google] on cleaning damaged disks with a 3000 grid sandpaper then buffing it with brassso or any other buffing paste and it'll be good as new, tried it on a few of my playstation games and they work as good a new.

kaboi? Whoa! Either I've been nodding off, or it's been a long time since you've roamed these halls. Good to see you!

You can try dd_rescue in Cygwin. Also if MPlayer can play it, it should be able to dump it (-dumpfile, etc.).

Hey Suho! I still pop my head in occasionally, its been a while though. Most of my time was stolen away by my identification baby business.
