Several years ago, I signed up with 1&1 when they offered their professional package for free for 3 years, however, the uptime hasn't been the greatest (though not too bad), and the speed has been fairly slow, especially the last couple years or so.

So, that said, I'm looking to move to another host.

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just the standard stuff I think. I don't need anything ridiculous as far as bandwidth or storage is concerned, since it will be mostly used for private storage/ftp and sharing pictures with family and friends. I prefer Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL, but I would entertain other possibilities.

Other than that, I'm just looking for a good deal (under $10/month) that is reliable.

I did some quick searches here, but most everything I found is fairly old. I know that there are many inmates here that use Dreamhost (including the Asylum itself), and from what I read on their page, the package they offer looks awfully good.
I'll admit, I'm kind of leaning towards Dreamhost already, but I wanted to see if there were any other good hosts that you guys use.

Thanks,
LF

I've been using LunarPages for several months without any problems. A server migration did not cause the slightest issue. Previous host, Webserve.ca was a nightmare.

Lunar's been up so far (100%), pricing is competitive, and bandwidth comes as ridiculous whether you need it or not. Customer support is not online but they respond very quickly and very good user forums. You can also host multiple domains.

I think a fellow patient runs this: http://serveit.org/

I use http://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/ which is great for my needs (charges by usage, no flat rate [+other cool things]), but it does have its quirks.

I have used Liquidweb for 5+ years and never been disappointed. The CS that they offer is un-heard of and always available.

I use OCS Solutions and couldn't be happier, I currently pay something like $6.

$6 per what? I've been charged like $8 since February.

ok, it's actually $6.95 a month, it's their most limited service according to their hosting page, but this still offers me Ruby on Rails support, email, and a Subversion server.

Ooh, just noticed they offer Git too, how nice

If you want to completely controll your hosting environment you might look into slicehost.com

$20 a month for your own VPS image.

I am running about a dozen PHP site on it with another 3 or 4 rails sites, it works great and has good speed.

Many will find it too much for their needs, but it does a great job meeting mine.
