Sup.
I've had very limited on-line time these past few months but that should start to change now that we are into the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. I'll have to catch up on quite a few threads.
I thought this site Public Profiler - worldnames rather interesting, although I don't like the sound of "Public Profiler"

To my complete surprise Australia is the country with the highest FPM (Frequency Per Million) of my surname "Hodge"

quote:

AUSTRALIA 338.23
NEW ZEALAND 314.37
UNITED KINGDOM 196.41
UNITED STATES 188.32
CANADA 112.32

The top regions were interesting too

quote:

Area Name FPM
TASMANIA , AUSTRALIA 775.62
TENNESSEE , UNITED STATES 660.96
BAY OF PLENTY REGION , NEW ZEALAND 647.91
SOUTH CAROLINA , UNITED STATES 598.79
OTAGO REGION , NEW ZEALAND 583.4

So, surprising? Interesting? Waddya think?

While I here I'd like to be the first to digress, rather than start a whole new nuther thread.

My browser windows are going berserk!
Firefoxy Google Chrome, IE and Opera.
When selected the browser window scrolls up and down of its own accord, at random as far as I can tell. I've checked the connections and they are seated correctly. OK I haven't cleaned the rollerball recently but it doesn't look claggy, yeah ok I'll do that now. Righto we're all declagged and still have twitchy browsers.

Standard PS/2 mouse, wired. I have the wheel set to scroll one line at a time.

Now let's check those pesky electrons out...

Well, 56.83 in Germany. That's the highest value of 'em. That was to be expected.

I see from our sample that it does very much depend on what your surname actually is.
I think I've been getting a little rootsy these past few months because another site which grabbed my attention was Cambridge DNA It really does appeal to me to be able to follow my DNA line through time and space. I'm sure there's a Viking or two lurking in the genetic mix.

My surname, spelled correctly, is not in their database. Spelled incorrectly (without a space), shows a result of 0.76 FPM in the United States alone--it apparently doesn't exist anywhere else. Not all that surprising, given the rarity of my surname.

My name spelled correctly (with 2 'a'-s) doesn't return any results because it's probably specific to my country and derived from the 1 'a' version:

Top Countries
Country FPM
NETHERLANDS 46.44
AUSTRIA 13.49
SLOVENIA 8.7
UNITED STATES 4.25
POLAND 2.9
