Hi,

I am designing a catalog however the photos have a background, for
example the pictures are of shoes but i can see the table the shoe is
sitting on and the background behind the shoe, is there a way to cut
the shoes out in Photoshop so the background is removed?

Thanks

sure. There are about a dozen different ways to approach this depending on the picture at hand.

You could use the the polygon lasso or the magnetic lasso, you could add a layer mask and paint on that,
you could copy the layer and play with the various functions under image/adjust to generate a mask (and apply that),
you could use the extract tool... and next time photograph it might be a good idea to photograph
the shoes on an background which makes cutting out even easier.

so long,

Alex, as mentioned - there are two general methods for print transparency with Adobe software:

1. A flattened (not transparent in Photoshop) EPS/PDF/PSD/TIFF with a vector clipping path

2. A transparent raster layer, with raster transparency where required, often in PDF/PSD/TIFF

Method one will require a good path and creates a hard edge, however it is almost problem free on most PostScript RIPs.

Method two can have soft/gradated transparency and will need to be flattened before or at print time for a PostScript output device. Results vary between different RIPs and the Adobe Transparency flattener in Illus/InDesign/Acrobat Pro and results are not always predictable.

Photoshop also has an Assistant/Wizard to walk new users through creating transparency.

EDIT: The transparency Assistant/Wizard appears to have been removed in CS or later, I am sure it was there in version 7 or earlier!

Hope this helps,

Stephen Marsh

Alex, you obviously did not get the responses here that you wished - as you have cross posted this to the Luminous Landscape forums, without mentioning that the question has also been asked on another list/s.

Clipping path is an artwork is used to cut out the unnecessary part of an image or remove the background. To do that one can use any photoshop softwere but I am recommending to use Adobe Photoshop CS3, CS4,CS5 or CS6 for a better experience.

Might just as well disable creating new users altogether. I don't think there have been any new legitimate users here for about 5 years now.

edit: With apologies to the very few who I might have missed.

For the beginner Photoshop CS3 is the best I think. Because many of people won't understand about the tools of other version.

Making Clipping path for an image one should remove the background if required. It can be done as transparent.[url]

It?s a time?s demand that to introduce a new product globally there needs an advertisement for. Once it?s very easy to make consumer understand about the importance or speciality of a particular product. Before going for an advertisement there needs to collect the image of that product and then it should be edited. Clipping path is the first step of editing an image. So we should know what?s clipping path at first.
