Crikey! I've just read about this on the BBC website.
I hope this gets resolved amicably, I've just started to really enjoy linking to to videos from my own site.
Mind you it also looks good for Spotify if the dispute continues.
Do you think it will last, the ban I mean? The whole entertainment industry seems to be struggling (still) to cope with all the goodies the internet can bring.

Probably all come crumbling down when TPB's trial ends.

Ummm...call me dumb, but can't someone in the UK kind of like...get around this by proxy?

Having just visited YouTube and played a couple of the videos I have selected as favourites (I really dislike the YouTube term "favourited" is that even a word in American English? It certainly is not in English English, but I digress.) I was going to report no change.
But, thinks I, let's listen to Neil Diamond "Heart of Gold"
Oh Noooooooooo

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Viacom International.

So in a state of loss and panic I fire up Spotify and search for "Heart of Gold"...

quote:
I want to live,
I want to give.
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.

Like an addict satiated by a recent fix, I feel whole again

So... let us take a walk to a quite corner in the South wing and discuss this "proxy" of which you speak. I have heard many tales but as yet, not understood the proximity of this beast.
I shall search till I understand, for I am dumb.

Well, there are *ahem* certain types of websites that will allow you to surf anonymously - and some of them include the ability to surf YouTube.

So it seems to me that someone should be able to use that (and "spoof" their country to another besides the UK) to access blocked YouTube stuff...

As I am not in the UK, I cannot verify this, but I often use such a technique to get around the annoying IT controls here at work...

As I assume that it is YouTube that has done this (according to the article), spoofing your IP to be that from another country other than the UK should be able to get around it.

Just do a google search for "hidemyass", for example...

First and most importantly: Neil Young not Neil Diamond

Try looking for information about TOR (The Onion Router). It's a little bit of over kill for what you want to do, but I think it would get the job done. It should allow you to surf whil looking as if you're comming from somewhere else.

Oh dear, oh deary dear.
Two Neils and my brain gets befuddled. I'm suffering from bad sectors and some data seems to be getting corrupted. Thanks for pointing that out hyperbole Neil Young is, of course, who I meant.
Thanks for the information too.

I'm just going to sit here for a while and think about what I've done.

At least you didn't say Neil Sedaka! That would have called for Master Suho's chair!

They look like lyrics to me WebShaman, nice one, did you have a tune in your head while writing them perhaps?
The muse is not with me at present, else I would reply with a song. At first I was going for a Sam Cooke stylie but I think it was the words "gonna come at last" that led me down that path. Then I had a Sam and Dave musical interpretation in mind but again I think the "Tao man" part got me thinking that way.
I'll have to borrow my neighbours guitar and see what I can come up with.

~ checks.... Sam Cooke....yeah OK.....Sam and Dave....yup, go to go...~

I've always found the history of that song interesting since I learnt about the fallout between Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd, yet I like both, and Creedence for that matter, so what does it all mean after all.

I just found out that there is a small wikipedia entry explaining what happend

Southern Man

Guilty as charged
But damn it, it ain't right
There's someone else controlling me
Death in the air
Strapped in Master Suhu's electric chair
This can't be happening to me

It appears (fingers crossed) that there must have been some movement with the PRS and other concerned bodies. As I can listen to as many Neil's as I like now. I have not come upon the restrictions I experienced earlier.
That new generator Master Suho's using sure packs a punch.
Seems to do the trick.
The voices are now singing.
