Hi all, I'm new here though I've been visiting for a decade, but now I really need help and I can't find the answer through searching, so I've finally stopped hiding and decided to register. I'm a big fan of Doc's though he never knew it.

Years ago, just before the current interface he had his orange marble landscape image that would slide left or right based on the mouse move action. I loved that and was sad to see it go; but, my question is where did it go? I checked all of the currently listed interfaces and it's not there. I'm really trying to learn how it was done.

I'm developing in jQuery, so if anyone can translate an answer in jQuery it would be greatly appreciated, but plain JavaScript will do. I'm not an expert but I'm certainly not illiterate either.

Thanks in advance, and it's nice to finally say hello to a group I've been reading for so many years.

Hey NoJive,

Thanks for the link. I looked at the code and I'm digging through it. Visually, the effect I was asking about had more in common with Doc's new 404 page. Except for the four z-depths there was only the one, but I'm sure the code had a lot in common.

If I remember correctly it's been about five years since I last saw the other interface, and I'm still thinking about it. I recently decided to rebuild my web-folio and I'd really like to do something similar. Of course I will rebuild the code for jQuery and share it here for anyone interested.

Maybe, if we are graced by the presence of the "Lord Mad Scientist", special permission could be granted for such an endeavor..?

With some more investigating building the desired effect in jQuery, I ran across this: jParallax. So it seems someone has beaten me to it. In fact this one is cool enough to chill the Doc and definitely deserves a mention here at the asylum.

I'll be around wandering the premises but for now I'm off for some fun and coding.

Thanks again, NoJive.

Hiya MiD AwE! You should know by now that you can take apart anything I've ever done and try putting it back together, that's how learning happens. Most of those sliding toys are dependent on the use of the sin() and cos() functions, you'll always get a nice movement out of a sine wave, very smooth. The 404 LOST pages are even simpler, the trickiest bit was getting the images to tile together. The jParallax thingy seemed cool, but they totally skirted the whole tiling issue! Cheaters.

I should really dig into jQuery - I use it on some of my work stuff here at deepFLING (our whole brick & mortar checkout system is written in jquery), but I had help on that one. It does allow you to do some cool stuff, but I worry that too much dependence on it will distance people from learning how to move things, and why some movements look smooth and some, well, do not.

FWIW, if you're looking for something in Ozone, just keep clicking the logo, it should keep taking you deeper.

Ask me anything! I'm probably yammering on about something else, but I can be directed.

Your pal, -doc-
