ok, so i have made this carmodel, but i totally suck at making a texture for it. i tried multiple times, but it is just not working out....

does anyone know ressources on where to get car-textures? or tutorials on how to make such a texture? it should be some kind of ralley car, so it should have some stickers on it.

oh, and if anyone wants to have a shot at making a texture for it, that would be awesome. just let me know and i will post the 3d model.

Uh... I'm not sure, 'cause I only know what I've read, but... Textures are generally dependent on the model -- if you made this model yourself, you'll likely have to make (or find someone to make) a texture for it directly.

Textures are often made using UV Unwrapping, which basically allows you to draw the texture on a per-polygon basis. Since you made this model, its polygons are probably different from what textures on the web have been designed for.

Talking out of my ass here ... but I guess this is how I would try to approach this problem ...

Is this for a game or for an art project?

In case it's for art project...
Paint it grey and make it metallic glossy. It lacks the polygonal detail for the different parts such as windows and lights. You'll need different materials and textures for different parts of the car.
wireframe1
wireframe2

But judging from the poly count it looks like it was made for a game...
This is an example texture from an older racing game.
In this case I believe your approach should depend on whether you can utilize all the new technologies such as shaders etc. If you can then you don't need to paint all the shadows yourself. If not then you can either: 1) take a few photos from sides, top, rear, back etc of a real car and combine/modify them tut 2) develop a clear image of what you're going for, google lots of reference material and paint everything yourself.

Arthurio, thanks for the links!

yeah, it is for a game, that's why the polycount is rather low.

so what i would need is a
* texture map
* specular map
* reflection map

the texture you posted is pretty much what i am looking for. but it seems to be only for the interior?

Hi.
Look here for how textures/skins can be structured, you can download the templates to see exactly how it's done in this particular game.:
http://www.race-game.org/race07/download/skintemplates.htm

Those are specific for the cars in the game Race07.
I've done a bunch of team skins for cars in a racing game, GTR2 and to paint the templates is a fairly simple job, to create the templates, well that will be a different story.

Some of them can be seen here: http://www.travo.se/bmbanner800.jpg
