On Thursday, Pres. Obama outlined the next steps with Guantanamo detainees and closing Guantanamo Bay prison. Also, Fmr. Vice Pres. Dick Cheney delivered an address, comparing the Bush Admin. counter-terror strategy with Pres. Obama's approach to terrorism.

Have you guys seen this? Obama's speech proposes a number of things I'm uncomfortable with:

[*] Restoring Executive respect for Rule of Law
[*] Clarifying blanket statements that the US does not torture people
[*] Encouraging people not to be led by fear
[*] Telling people to be strong instead of telling them to be scared
[*] Telling people that terrorists probably will attack somewhere no matter what we do
[*] Encouraging the Executive Branch to seek oversight for security programs

What's he trying to do? What's happening to my country?!

Kidding aside, I find myself strangely excited by this new behavior.

P.S. Please excuse the thread title, it's a Bill Maher joke

Missed the speech and my comp doesn't have audio, but thanks for the summary. I knew he was doing something good, but I wasn't exactly sure what... I've been more interested in morality-related politics (gay marriage, abortion, etc.) than anti-terrorism/economic politics, though; hopefully the economy'll correct itself in time for him to work on those a bit more.

What... the hell... is that?!

I thought Wes was making up that 'Immaculate confection' joke- I was about to incorrectly distribute the cool points!

I don't remember what Maher was actually talking about, but he said something like, "... not even Chocolate Jesus in Washington could do that." It stuck in my head, for the life of me I can no longer look at the president and not think it.

By the way- why are all the old sinister administration people crawling out of the woodwork on the talkshow circuit now? I keep watching them thinking after something like 8 years of high-pressure White House service, I'd be off at Bora Bora for a good long time.

Because unlike most politicians, they are real wakkos (sorry Wakkos) - they actually believe in what they were doing

Neo-cons are like that.

Real polititians would have raided the treasury, and then retired to Bora Bora, as you have pointed out

WS- for some reason, that reminds me of a quote:
