Not a simple problem.

The image in your example isn't 'rounded' it's wrapped around a 3D cylinder that is at a slight angle to the viewer.

Doing this with pure javascript may be possible but not a very good idea.

You have 2 basic ways to approach this problem:
1) client side flash or java applet
2) js ajax + server side processing

I would prefer the 1. option and do it in flash. This way you could even rotate the 'cup' in real time.

You know what I'm thinking ? Displacement map.

You can do that directly using SVG, and can fallback to Canvas or Flash or a server side process.

I apologize up front if this is not the case but...is this some crafty spam?

I don't see anything in the link posted that is "rounded"

CPrompt: To be honest I thought the same. But not the initial post was more poorly worded and uneducated ( javascript coding, images, in a server side forum ?? ) than spamy ( no actual link, no keywords bombing, ... ).

But a quick search undoubtly flags this as spam. Btw it's interesting to read the answers given to that same post on other forums.
