I do pretty well with my own small business and I credit a good deal of my success to always standing by my customers. The checkbook has to balance but I find only looking at the bottom line to be penny wise and dollar foolish. You stand by your customer and you'll have a customer for life. I'm the same way as a consumer and Apple has really stood by me over the years. Several years ago I posted here how I took the 17" years old, out of warranty Powerbook my parents bought me in college in for repairs and how it went back and forth a few times before they acknowledged they were unable to repair it, refunded me the original cost of repairs (about $100), and replaced my laptop. I would have been happy with a refurbished Powerbook but I ended up with a brand new MacBook Pro with every upgrade I made on the original Powerbook. That was about 2007 or 2008. Anyway, I started up my MacBook Pro about a month ago, the machine booted, but the screen remained blank. To make a boring story more tolerable the computer went back and forth a few times, and earlier this morning I received a phone call from the Apple Store acknowledging that they're unable to fix my MacBook Pro and I'll be getting a new one free of charge, complete with all the upgrades. I'm not a fanboy or anything but with service like that, how do you not stay a customer for life and tell everyone you know? People talk about the cost of their products but I've definitely gotten my money out of them.
