Hello there fellow Asylumites.
Ever feel the urge to splash about in a sea of pixels just for the sake of it?
Well here is an opportunity to do so and exercise those creative muscles to boot.
I'll post up one of my photographs (a full moon) and anyone can have a go at creating something from it. First one to be posted will be the image I'll work from to create the next image.
If no image is posted by return after seven days then, If the muse is with me, I will make another image from the original, post it up, and give it another seven days to get a return serve from you.
So here we go. Crikey, can I remember how to do this?

I just realized that the last time we played this game was already 5 years ago! And my first post was a planet I made out of your conker.
Also it looks like I've been insane for 10 years now

Whoa! Great serve, and yes you are right I remember that match. I'm intrigued now, I'll have to see if I have any of the images from that match stored somewhere.
Looks like I'm coming up to the Ten Year mark also Arthurio. We're not newbies any-more

If file size starts to rocket, and I'm sure it will, shall we rar or zip the beastie?

Wow!
Stars. Constellations, and the dark side of the smaller planet lit by city lights is a great touch too.
Looks like the ringed planet is in trouble and I'm wondering if the spaceships are friend or foe.
Hmmm. I shall have to cogitate.

Wouldn't you Adam and Eve it?
I'm getting repeated BSOD over the last few days. I'm trying to sort it myself, otherwise I'll have to drag it to the shop.
I can't find the windose 7 disk check utility so have used Advanced System Care's Disk utility in safe mode . No faults found yet.
last time I needed to do this I ran chkdsk from the command prompt.
Hopefully, normal service will be resumed ASAP.

0xF4 means that a critical process was terminated. I can't seem to decode the parameters though. One of them should be the name of the process in ascii but normal hex to ascii doesn't seem to work.
Have you tried to reinstall windows yet? It sounds like a hardware issue but you should probably try it anyway.

Don't mention it too loudly , but..........
We have a functioning system again.
I think it is probably a failing HDD, the third one I've had in as many years, not good. I'll bore you all with the details later.
The first thing is for me to back up all my precious things. It is also such a beautiful day (Mabon, the Autumn Equinox btw) that I'm going for a bike ride I think I'll also get a fast HDD while I'm out.
Then it's Photoshop and "Clobbering Time".
Sorry for all the drama Arthurio.

Good to hear Tao and don't worry about it. Tip: Put your Photoshop's scratch disk on an SSD for a performance boost.

PSD-RaR

Coincidently I found myself looking at SSD's yesterday, they're not cheap eh? About three times the price of the 500gig Seagate HDD I have at present.
But I think I luvs them
Still running on the same set up that crashed. I ran chkdsk on both disks with auto repair but have yet to locate the log file it generated. I know there is a viewer specifically for this which I've found but I'm finding it convoluted and hard to interpret. Also ran startup repair which reported "unable to fix" on three occasions and at the same time (ish) I removed each HDD and checked all the cables and then put them back in, So far.........

Well you don't need an SSD to be as big as an HDD ... you should use them in combination. HDD for all the large, static stuff like photos, music, other media and SSD for OS, applications, caches, scratch disks, paging files etc.
I have a 256gb SSD for OS, apps and games. One 128gb SSD, 2 x 1TB HDDs, 2 x 3TB HDDs.
When I sense that one of the disks is becoming unreliable (long before it actually breaks) I buy another one and copy all my stuff the the new drive.
Usually by that time the new drives are at least 3 times bigger and a bit cheaper.
So I had 2 x 300GB drives ... replaced those with 2 x 1TB drives and now 2 x 3TB drives. Each time I've had to pay less for the new pair. All my old stuff can easily fit on the new drives and I can even keep my hundreds of gigabytes of photos on two separate drives in case something happens to one of them.

All this is of course most conveniently achieved with the help of a 'real' PC Call me old fashioned but I still enjoy the comforting whirr of a giant black box sitting on top of the desk.

Love it.
I've just finished installing, setting up and updating win7 on my 128GB SSD. Haven't installed Photoshop yet but that's next obvs. Great serve again, you've got me scrabbling around for installation disks like a wild thing.

Good to hear you got the new SSD Tao. I hope you had the good sense to install it physically as the first primary disk and installed your windows so your MBR (master boot record) is on the SSD. Otherwise it will be a pain in the ass if your old HDD fails and your MBR is on it. Also if your MBR is on the SSD it doesn't need to spin up your HDD on startup so it's faster.

Just a mistake I've made myself and paid for

Easiest way to check it:
1) Shut down.
2) Disconnect HDD.
3) Start up.
4) If no problems with MBR, you're good.
5) If problems - try repairing with win 7 disk

Yeah, thanks Arthurio. SSD set as primary and OS installed there. Still, I unplugged the other drives just to check. We're cooking on Solid State, YeeHar!
Also, As I had a shiny new install, I'm now running a trial version of Photoshop CC. Haven't given it a going over yet, so far it's looking delightful. New versions of Photoshop always get me a little emotional

I've a few Orks and Uruk Hai to deal with today, so when they are dispatched, I'm all over the next serve.
