Places that will freely host your files, with or with out an added con (no direct linking, PHP, etc)

brinkster - no longer ad Free ($1.95/month to remove ads), but no direct linking.

tripod - ad's on pages, no no direct linking - PHP. MySQl, CGI and reasonable space and bandwidth (50Mb, Unlimited).

angelfire - ad's on pages, no no direct linking.

hypermart - ad's on pages, no no direct linking.

Portland - PHP/MySQL with domain and subdomain hosting all for free - poor space and bandwidth (15Mb, 100Mb/month).

Free Webs - "This website is being hosted for Free by FreeWebs.com." along the bottom, I doubt any server-side support.

BraveNet - ads, subdomain, site building tools and reaonable sapce and bandwidth (20Mb and 500Mb/month).

Freeservers - ads, 12Mb and 500Mb/month.

FortuneCity - ads but reasonable space (25Mb) and good bandwidth (3Gb/month)

DesignerServers - no ads, 20Mb space and 250Mb/month bandwidth. Host up to 5 domains. CGI.

clockerz.net - PHP/MySQL, no ads and they are flexible to your requirementsyou need to be referred to them by someone already using the service (so get friendly with them. hint: Mark/untruth is an active member of the GN).

Contributions.org.uk - "Free web hosting for UK charities and non profit making organizations" - 50Mb space and 350Mb/month

Unlimited usually means as long as you are deemed not to be abusing the hosting agreements are rarely means actually unlimited.
