Can you recommend any free webmail services

There are an awful lot available and terms and conditions vary depending on what you are planning so you'll need to look around for the right service for you.

Note: Hotmail is a bad idea - you will get spammed back into the Stone Age and get hacked left right and centre so you can do better than that.
