Can I use subqueries in MySQL?

You can from version 4.1 - this is a very powerful addition to the MySQL but as (at the time of writing) this is new you should check to see if you have this version (if not ask your host to upgrade, but beware, 4.1 is currently (Aug 03) in beta, so they might not be willing to).
