http://www.haughtbk.com/ozonetourney.html <--- Page for previous tournament.

First of all, my sincere apologies for not providing closure to our previous chess tournament. Just a case of bad timing. Sorry!

The top three place results from the last go around were:
First place: Sash - 4 points
Second place: (3-way tie) Webshaman, Doc Ozone, Suho1004 - 3 points
Third place: (2-way tie) Mobrul, Massacre - 2 points

Congratulations to Sash for an undefeated tournament!

Sooooooo ... anyone want to get another tournament going? Just take a look at the page linked to at the top of this post for a general idea of how this deal runs. Post here if you are interested in joining in.

Game pace is expected to be at least 5 or 6 moves per week, however, I know that many folks were able to make moves several times a day. Just so long as the game is kept active throughout the week, everything will be fine.

Sash, care to defend your crown? WS, want to exact revenge? Doc, are you ready to operate? Suho, got the shock therapy machine warmed up?

Let's rumble!!!!

<little rant> The only thing that disappointed me the first time around was the number of people who just disappeared. If you are interested in participating in this new tournament, then please make sure you will be able to follow through to the end. Some participants "got the shaft" cause opponents dropped out of the tournament without any notice. I understand that real life can easily preclude folks from finishing the tournament, but a quick note informing everyone that you are bowing out is the least you can do. </little rant>

All right, Perfect Thunder, head on over to Stan's Netchess and get yourself set up with a player page. Then provide a link to it from here, please.

Everyone else so far should still have their previous player page at Stan's. Let me know if any changes have been made.

Four people so far (including me). Mas, are you interested in playing?

The skill level is definitely in a wide range. It would be hard to pin down. Sash was definitely on the "fear the mighty hand of Zeus" level. WebShaman unnerved everyone he played cause of that strange habit he had of sharpening his tomahawk during the game. And there were a few of us who had a hard time scraping together any wins despite some close games. The nice thing about this style of tournament, though, is that by the 3rd and 4th rounds, everyone is playing against folks of comparable strength.

Sorry I missed that, Synthetic. I'll update everything to reflect that here soon.

I'll let this signup thread stew for about a week before I set up the tournament just so that everyone has a chance to see it and join in.

And ditto on Sash...he's really good...though I would love to play him again...

Count me in. I used to have a page at Stan's, but it's been forever since I was there. When/If I find the old one, I'll post it (or it's replacement) here.
edit: Lord Fuktuoku's player page

Just a little advance warning though, I'm still kinda tied up at work and school, catching up from vacation and all, but my schedule should be a bit closer to something vaguely resembling normal within a couple weeks... ::crosses fingers::

Heh... actually, I had an undefeated tournament too--I joined one round late

Not that I think I could have beaten Sash, of course, but it just makes me feel better to know that. I also happened to beat one of my co-runners-up in a private match, which also doesn't count toward the tournament, but also makes me feel better. Why do I have the feeling I'm setting myself up for a fall this time?

Eh, yeah, I'm in. I won't be able to start until about the 3 February, though (lunar new year this weekend).

Can we scrounge up one more player to make it all evened up? If not, no big deal.
I'll try to get this thing rolling NLT Wednesday ... but probably sooner.

unLevel: If I had to take a guess, BeeKay (at least I believe he's the one running this show) will start a new thread with all the information we need, and when each of our games starts, we'll post the link to the game page in that thread...

quote:
Game pace is expected to be at least 5 or 6 moves per week, however, I know that many folks were able to make moves several times a day. Just so long as the game is kept active throughout the week, everything will be fine.

So, no, not any 'scheduled' times to be on to play, even though you could talk to your opponent and set up a time to play every now and then so you could possibly get several moves at one sitting, rather than just a few moves a week...
When pairings are announced, one challenges the other and it goes about like a typical online chess game...

At least, that's what I picked up from the last one ::shrugs::

Within a couple hours of this post, someone from the last tourney will add to what I just said...

Yes, er, um, my apologies. I'll get this kicked off as soon as possible. I've been engaged in interviews for a new job that popped up out of nowhere. Could be a good step forward for me as far as responsibilty and pay goes, so this matter has taken a high priority for me this past week. As such this chess tourney and the Ripper Report content projects have taken a back burner.

However, interviews are over and now I'm waiting for word back. I've been told it's between me and another person. Exciting! So, I'll try to get the chess games going soon.

Once again, my apologies.
