Everytime I am online (started several days ago), after about a half hour or so, I start getting the message that the server can't be reached, I usually have several windows open. I check my connection status, and it says Active. I try to verify with my Windows Task Manager, and it barely stays onscreen long enough to barely read the Task Status' as still Running. What's up?! Work interrupted, lose important 411....plz...someone know what is happening?
How does this happen if i am Still Online? I reboot, but it continues to occur....

That's quite a strange problem... Why did you say the task manager barely stays onscreen ? Does you computer crash after this ? And what do you mean by work interrupted ?

Hmm if the problem stays after rebooting... Well it might a heat or overclocking issue that causes a global instability.. But then I don't see why the network is bugged.

It would be helpful if you gave further details on your configuration, like the OS, material and applications you are using.

Oh there is a last hypothesis... If you are using Windows ME, then I guess there isn't much more to do except radical solutions...

Hi MoonShadow!
the task manager will show up for a moment and quickly disappear, don't know why. Can't get it to stay. lol (Have to laugh, or will scream...)
Have gone over systems and such, set things back to their original/default settings and the probs continue anyways.
I have a XP on a Compaq P4 1.5 256- nothing fancy, but good enough. I am usually running yahoo, dos, javac, and several windows on non-essentials i like to keep on top of, like news, archeology, etc....
does that help?
* also have had trouble with removing progs as the infamous Bonzi Ape, and Java 2 Runtime Enviro, which didn't install well. All I get is: install.log file cannot be opened. Another thing driving me up the wall! Can't reinstall Java 2, dont want to overload hd. Won't let me write over it either. Not good....{(

what i would do is throw my computer out the window and buy a new one. that usually works for me.

And an intelligent person would do something to fix the problem. But obviously, that's not you.

Hrrrmmm you situation is really scary... I never saw that. I don't know exactly what is causing that, but there are two main possibilities in my opinion :
- You got a virus.
- You killed your windows

There are no other possibilities at my knowledge explaining. So, if you have an antivirus scan all your hard drives, or try to get one. I also advise you to search for trojans like Back Orifice or Backdoor Subseven (the most common ones), someone is maybe having fun with your computer. If none of those work... Then there are still the 'hard' solutions. But I would not recommend that unless you really don't find the causes.

AnaiyA: I think MS is on the right track there. You task manager might let you spot illegal activity and so it makes sense that some kind of nasty might try and close it down.

I did a quick search on Google:
www.google.com/search?q=windows+task+manager+closes

which gave me these:
www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/n1041174926
www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/n1047314957

It seems it might be related to the W32.Klez@mm virus so go here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

and then grab yourself virus scanners, firewalls and scumware killers:

:FAQ:

[edit: just clarifying that it might be connected with that virus as it seems to solve some people's problems]

~goes to Kevin G's window and waits for the next computer to come out~

AnaiyA i don't know what the problem is.
But i would follow these steps (in no particular order)

-Do a virusscan (when comp does weird Always do a virusscan) You can use the online service from housecall

-Run Scandisk, use 'Scandisk /?' in dos mode to get all the scandisk options.

-Start DrWatson to learn more about the problem

-Check all security settings (firewall, spamblockers etc.)

-Check your network settings (ip-adresses, net mask etc. for local and internet).

-Run a program to check on agresive Adware like: Adaware

-Run a Registry checker.

-Call MS-support or look in the MS-Knowledgebase

Hopes this helps. Good luck.
