I'd say take a drive out to the country that's where most of the good organic server farms are.

Yannah: It strikes me they are Word Perfect files. Word tends not to be overly helpful with other people's file formats but OpenOffice might be more useful - I'll just check on the other computer.

I'm a little confused about what your asking for, a server to store files on, a world processer to read files off of a server, a world processer to read .wordprocesser files. Although, I'd just give you the same advice that these people have been giving you, except that Word has always opened staroffice and WordPerfect files for me.

yeah I've rarely had a hard time opening other file formats in Word. (Can't save them but that's another issue)

Oh, I do apoligize we're not at your beck and call, oh great one...

However, AFAIK, there aren't any handy programs to convert .wps to .doc (or anything else Word likes) ... I ran into this problem earlier this semester in the lab... I think what we ended up having to do is save the file as something other than .wps (or .wpr or whatever the extension is), (.rtf perhaps?) on a computer that has Word Perfect, then it loaded with no problems in Word...
If that's not an option, you might just be SOL...

If all you want to do is read .wps files Office should be able to do it (at least I haven't had any problems with it) or you can install OpenOffice which can read most text files out there, even .wps files

Well, ok, the question begs to be asked:

where did the file come from and why are you not able to open it?

What is the file for?

What programs do you have that you have tried to open the file with?

And how does a server fit in here?

where did the file come from and why are you not able to open it? from my PC

What is the file for? History assignment

What programs do you have that you have tried to open the file with? Microsoft Words

And how does a server fit in here? huh? I don't get you.

Ok.

1) you created the file, then? If so, how can you possibly not have a program to open it?

2) you said you were looking for server. I'm asking what a server has to do with anything. Are you simply misunderstanding what a server is, or is there yet more to what you need that we're not understanding?

And when you say 'microsoft words', do you mean microsoft Word, or microsoft Works (big difference)?

Some formats Word will only open if you chose to install the proper convertion formats, at the installation time. You can always re-run setup and install them, if you haven't at the first time. And DL-44 pointed out an important difference: 'Words' means Word with a typo or Works with another kind of typo?

Anyway in a way she does have her own archive:

This is also a good one:
"my ip addresss are banned."
I specially like the lowercase at the very beginning that matches perfectly with the period, at the end of the title, 'ip' written also in lowercase, and, a topper, the way 'address' was converted to its plural form. Amazing. Why didn't she use just one 'n' in banned? It would have fit perfectly...

I think DL and Yannah should just take it from here. We'll see how long it takes DL to snap

hope you didn't take that in offense DL. I just thought it was funny that you actually asked the question "where does the server fall into place". I was wondering that myself.

I am just really confused and find this topic rather humorous. That's all.
