Am't she a beauty?

----------------------------------------------------------

And she looks even better in the dark...
(Hides the messy room)

Yup dual Pentium Pro processors (one working still trying to recompile the kernal for SMP keep getting an error...) but anyhow...
256 MB RAM
4.3 MB SCSI HDD (I plan to add more...)
Pair ah NIC cards (one of which works still need an EISA configuration Utility...)
and running slackware...

So all in all it's almost like a classic car I plan to fix up....

Bought it off the kid up the street he was moving out of college, gonna try to use it to learn linux over the summer.....

Wow, thats a frickin tall computer... gotta be at least 3 feet tall!
edit: LOL, I didn't see the garbage can behind it... that brings it into perspective!

One more thing: I should hope with a computer like that, you should have slightly more hd space than 4.3 MB -- I'm guessing 4.3 GB right?

Other than that, that looks like a pretty nice machine ya got there. It makes my computer look old and crappy. Wait, it is old and crappy.

I wish my server looked that cool, mine looks like what it is: a crappy old, dusty computer sitting in a corner. 120MHz, 4GB hd, 4 (maybe 2) mb pci video card, two 10/100 NICs...

BTW: My computer case is just over 12 in tall... two 5.25 inch bays, two 3.5 inch bays, and one internal hd slot. 233MHz, 32MB ram, old worthless video card... you get the picture.

Wow abb, I thought my computer were old but yours is older.

Mask, one question: why the case has to be so iluminated? To better see the dust inside the computer?

Ah yah ab I did mean Gigabytes....boy do I feel dumb...

Well actually the Server is so fast that it needs parking lights,

No the guy who sold it to me had it all case mod'd a lot worse than what it already is, he started stripping the lights off of it because they were a little on the expensive side and he wanted to drop down the price for me. But we were running out of time so he just left the last light in there and now I have a semi mod server.

But your right you can see the dust better that way, if it weren't for my crappy digital camra you would have seen more dust than a pawn shop.

Yup, and it too came with a old worthless video card! In fact I don't even hook the monitor into it, I just use SSH to get in.

Put a coffeine machine in the big hole and that will be the perfect machine Maskkk

I also particularly like the mess and the bin, typical from geeks... That makes me remember an ad I saw in the past for Quake 3, the seat of the user of the computer was a... toilet seat

running Slackware eigh? That's a bare bones Linux man. Have fun learning on that though.

I have an old computer that I am going to fix up that will run Linux as just a firewall. Just something to goof off with. going to be fun to do though. So, congrats on the new box. It is fun to have something to just tinker around with isn't it?

FUN, but.... Frusterating!

I'm having a hell of a time recompling the kernel, if I don't figure it out soon, I may just throw Red Hat on it (or mandrake). I keep on getting this goofie error message

"devlist.h:xxxx: __devicesxxxxx causes a section type conflict "

I went to make my bzImage and I got a bunch of errors like this:

"devlist.h:xxxx: __devicesxxxxx causes a section type conflict "

(where x's are just ah bunch of numbers)

I haven't tried the rest out yet, but I think the problem is I never did a "make dep" after I reconfigured it a few times. All I want it to do (thus far) is add support for my other processor using SMP. Somebody on another messageboard told me that enabling Advanced Power Management (APM) might conflict with my SMP. But what I have to wonder is how many other things that I have enabled are conflicting with my SMP.

I'm told Red Hat sets this stuff up automatically...but that there are some drawbacks to Red Hat (what those are I haven't figured out yet....) I think it was something about them quote, "becoming more and more like Microsoft"

But I'm a coder! I'll hang in there, that's what I love about this job: all the highs and lows. Self induced manic depression that's what it's all about!

Hmm that's a good idea....

I have an old 120 MHz AMD I once dubbed the "Millenum Falcon" due to the fact that it wasn't Y2K complient.

What the heck should I name it?

Hmmm I think I'll start another thread on this...
