Well it seems that people who illegally download music are also the ones more likely to actually go out and buy CDs:

I had read that although CD sales had dropped by 25% in recent years the record industry were releasing 30% less music focused on increasing numbers of big name artists (who they've signed up for a fortune and who aren't getting the money back - Robbie Williams, Maria Carey, etc.).

In some ways it might not suit the music industry to have people listening to songs before they buy CDs as they'll realise what rubbish the big acts are pumping out and it is interesting to see that the big winners in this survey are dance and alternative rock.

I also assume sales of CDs are declining because people have pretty much finished buying all ther vinyl again as CDs.

Ya, I can say it's the same thing in Techno/Trance/House/Hardcore new CDs... Even this part of music is stagnating. There are more and more compilations of previous CDs, more and more remixes, less and less new styles and ideas...

The new CDs are do bad that I just stopped buying them and listen to an Internet radio now (here if there are persons interested here by this type of music, try the Hardtrance channel).

Ai..... But there will always be remixes everywhere. There's a difference in a recycle compared to remixes.

As for the Techno/Trance/House/Hardcore, ect area, remixing has been around for years, and a lot of recycles (some good some bad). But with Techno/Trance/House/Hardcore,ect area they give the original artist credit like "Saltwater - The Legacy (Alphazone Mix)" the original artists name is there first, then the re-mixers name. In the pop world they just recycle a good old tune, make it crap and then try and make it out that it's there's. Unless questioned or if you read the small print (which no one does).

But I still love little bands/producers/artist which there music is more important than there money!! Unlike most pop 'o' factory artist most labels create. For me music should not be too much about money, but for the love of creating the music is self. But there will always be greedy, tenantless people out there that will just worm there way in.

Well, I think this is backfiring...same old stars, same old faces, same old songs...c'mon! There are literally thousands of musicians out there, making music...bring them on!

I'm sick of the 'run through the rich bizz' crap. Give me real music, sung and played by someone who means it, wrote it, and damn well knows what the hell the lyrics mean!

I've always believed that DLers bought more music then 'legitimate' listeners. Look at how much music we're exposed to... We'll buy more music now then we did before purely because we have found so much more music to like. The music buyer is a skeptical person... 'One hit wonder' disk or is it worth my $15.00. That and the costs of CD's are discouraging in and of themselves... considering we know how cheaply they can be made. Perhaps a revolution is in order. GOOD music on cheaper disks. Quality sells volume = money. Maybe. I'm sure the record industry doesn't believe that.

Back on topic, the selfishness in the music domain always disgusted me... For example, Sony is one of the first majors to claim they loose a lot of money due to DLers... And on the other side, they eagerly sell they virgin CDS and their CD burners... They have to make a choice in my opinion.

There's very little in the way of new music that I'm interested in. I thought it was just that I don't like listening to the radio - but it all sounds the same! Though, I have discovered, since the release of his second album, that I actually do like Eminem... (Listen closely to his lyrics, he's having a hot time with the record industry!)

The biggest music disappointment I had recently was Venessa Carlton's remake of another old english ballad called "Greensleeves" (sung to the tune of "What Child Is This", which is actually sung to the tune of Greensleeves, but more people are familiar with the Xmas carol...). My dad used to sing this song to us when we were little, and I have always loved the tune of it and have always thought is was very beautiful. If you haven't ever heard it, it's a love song about the girl who got away... Anyway, Ms. Carlton tried to sexy it up a little and sang it in a deep, trying to be husky voice and flat out massacred it. I listened to it, only because I'd never heard anyone remake that particular song before, and I really like the song itself - but who in the HELL gave that woman a recording contract? And even after hearing the other 2 singles off her album, I stand by that remark. Even the one she did with Santana was bad... And I really like Santana...

Yeah I'd have to agree, the new stuff sucks. I mean maybe this is just the generation gap widening beneath my feet, cause I'm getting old, but the "new" music now days just sucks. One part of the problem is that there are so many bands out now. Back in the day there were maybe 3 or 4 really good bands that everybody agreed were the best, but now it's just so darn fragmented.

As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with the oldies...

....UNTIL SOMEBODY REMIXES THEM!


One that really made me MAD was when Maddona re-did the day the music died. She butchard that song like sweet venison bound for McDonald's! Buddy Holly is rolling over in his grave.

I even used to like rap, back when they used to rap about real issues, but now all they do is go on about how great their SUV's and BLING BLING's are, (Bling? Bling?, can we get any stupider?) not to mention how many honey's they can keep in their cars. I really hated too when Puff the Magic Daddy did that song with Led Zepplin in the background, I mean it wasn't even sampling it was just the song with that retard trying to rap over it.

...And you would think Music downloaders would be more likely to buy CD's considering you need money to buy a computer and a speedy Internet connection!

Besides if the Artist was starving or something I could see the point of not downloading their music, but most of them don't get the money, the greedy (sleep with me if you want a record contract) record companies are getting the money. The musicans that play the actual songs only get about $50,000 a year for making the records. (Is this true? That's just what I heard.)

I dunno about Emenem ether, I have to give him credit for writing his own lyrics, but he's still kind of a tard. I really don't think they should be marketing his stuff to kids...which reminds me....

The reason most of the entertainment sucks now days is because the best potental market for entertainment is 14 year old girls that get whatever thier daddy wants for them...

I think that in the near future a lot of people will buy only the songs they like and burn their own disks. Well, if they still feel like they need to have a disk that is.

I'm a student. Cd's cost about 20 euro (which should be about 20 dollar). I simply can't afford them. So I'll take my time now to discover what I really like, and then, when I have a job and the money comes flowing in, then I'll start stocking up on cd's

But what was said about people buying their vinyl also as cd's: it's too bad for them. Because the sound of a vinyl record is much warmer than the digitalised version. I used to work with a dj and from what I heard the difference between vinyl and cd is sometimes downright appalling :/

^ very true, but you can't take your record in the car with you, or jogging, or to the beach, etc, etc, etc...

Not to mention the work to keep them in good condition is a bit more time consuming.

Don't get me wrong, I love my vinyl. But I need CD's for everyday use...

And yeah, I really don't see any quandry in downloading music. I've done it with tapes since I was 10...things should be different becuase it's digital now?

When I find something I like - I buy it. But I'm sure as hell going to figure out what's good first

When I used to work at the grocery store the manager used to get mad when the customers would start eating their food before they paid for it, do you think the record companies are pissed about the same thing? But who really cares when you buy it just so you buy it. And besides just like DL-44 said customers aren't gonna buy the food until they've had a free sample. (At least food that costs 15.00 a pop)

Other than this being nothing more than a very vegue analogy...does anybody know what I'm saying?

Yup, I know what your saying. I got reccommended Deftones "Around the Fur" and "Adrenaline," and I bought the alums...But, after I downloaded about half the albums to see if I liked them. Theres something about owning the album, I don't know what it is, but owning a burned cd just isn't the same. I think that you appreciate it more. Or something.
