So there was I with a new piece of software to learn and use, the software being Trillion. [edit Trillian. ty moonshadow]
I've never really used them (are they all called P2P's?) before.
In the spirit of empirical research I started to add ICQ numbers. As I have no friends using ICQ I used a few from some of the profiles of inmates who I have come across here, thinking to myself, once I check the system i can easily remove them!
OH Noooo .
I realise now that I have added people to my "buddy" list without asking for their permission. Now I don't know what the etiquette is for such things, but I feel sure I have stepped over the mark somewhere along the line.
I have sent each person affected, an apology using Trillion, and just to be sure again I apologise here.
Master Suho1004, may I book myself in for a double session of your most efficacious shock therapy ASAP.

This is not a P2P (Peer to Peer) software. P2P softwares are used to share files between Internet users, they are programs such as Kazaa, Emule, Edonkey...

You can add people to your list without asking them the permission, but if you don't want to be considered like a spammer, I wouldn't advise that. I don't think people here will be angry at you for that though

Edit : I didn't launch my Trillian for ages.. This topic made me launch it. Emperor it seems you added me to your contact list... Sorry pal I didn't see that at all !

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. I add people all the time and never bother to ask permission...

If people don't want you talking to them they'll just add you to their ingore list or something.

If someone doesn't want to be bothered by other people they'll just set their away status. I've added contacts from the Asylum whom I've never actually talk to yet but hey, it's nice to know if their online when I'm in a pinch and need advide on something.

Tao: if they have their Q number in their profile....then it's probably pretty safe to add them to your list. like Dracusis, i've got quite a few asylum folks on my list that i've never actually spoken to (mostly because they frighten me )
i believe there's a place in the FAQ that has a list of Q numbers as well....

Thanks for the words folks. I feel somewhat reassured now that I know I haven't crossed one of "those" lines. 'Tis always wise to check where those boundries are methinks. (Guess whose been studying Shakespeare the past few months forsooth)
I have now removed MSN messenger from my system for good. It was a most annoying little pimple that kept reappearing when I didn't want it to.
