No, I'm not infested. My Logitech Trackball of eight years finally seems to be giving up on me. I've cleaned it inside and out several times now, each more thorough than the last, and it isn't really helping. I've decided...

...it's time to get a new mouse. I'm looking for an optical mouse, since my wife hates the trackball. I'm also leaning towards Logitech again (particularly the MX500), since my last mouse from them performed so well. But before I order, I wanted to see what you guys and gals recommend (or recommend avoiding).

I don't need anything too snazzy, just a good, middle-of-the-road optical mouse. Any suggestions?

[Edit: to/two/too... what am I, a moron? Apparently...]

Evil in theory, not so much in practice...

I think the top end logitech cordless is the Mx700.. well I couldn't afford it at the time... but i got the other (cheaper) logitech cordless and its great I have some spare NiMh batteries from my old digicam and they last forever in the mouse before needing a charge. I've heard that the older cordless mice have some lag, but this one's been great for gaming even.

My Intellimouse Explorer (okay it's Microsoft) is serving me for 4 years now, and I didn't have a single problem with it. There is a single LED, nowadays they make mouses with two LEDS for a better accuracy. It depends of the quality you want, and of the price you're willing to pay.

Oh and by the way, I've witnessed that wireless mouses can be really annoying... For two reasons :

- You have to change the batteries
- Several wireless mouses interact together (if you have close computers or during LANs) making the cursor totally uncontrollable

Edit : HAHA you're right Mahjqa, I typed "piles" in French and I didn't even notice... Thank you

Moon Shadow: The MX700 has some accu which you reloads by puting your mouse in a table charger. Like you do with wireless home phones.

I've tried several mouses ( from Logitech and Microsoft ). Having tried cordless, optical, and cordless optical mouses, my choice goes to the MS Intellimouse Explorer. It's light like a plume, wide, quite accurate and the cord is not that annoying. I don't really like cordless mouses 'coz they often are too heavy and/or high. And I find the design of Logitech mouses too narrow.

Cheers

Le mot 'piles' en Français roughly translates to 'batteries' in English.

LOL... tell me about it!

It wasn't until 1994 or so when the "mouse" was invented. Before that, it was all about commands and commands(thank gods I don't remember them anymore except for a few simple commands like "clrscr", "cd ____")

Back then, it was some big and chunky device with 3 buttons. :P And it was serial port and everytime the mouse came out, I had to screw it back. T__T;;

Oh and back in like 1995 or so, the cdrom drive wasn't really available in Singapore yet. So, when we bought Win 95, it was the diskette version and everytime I had to reinstall Windows, there would be a mad scramble for the disks. I think there were a lot of disks(how big was Win 95 again? 100 mb, rite?)

"Please insert Diskette 4 and press Enter."

Krets just got a new cordless from Logitec... He's been thrilled with it according to his thread.

I'd ask him and see how it has been working for him. It's been abouta month that he's had it I think.
