I have 2:

On my upper left arm, a rose, colored purple... it was originally a home-done tattoo, you know, india ink, a needle... some liquor... I had it done when I was a sophmore in high school then a friend who was an aspiring artist cleaned it up and colored it in. Not bad - but in '95, I had another friend, who happened to be a really good artist, do it up right...

On my inner right ankle, a pentagram, also home done, I have a design in mind for covering it up, but haven't been able to get my gumption up - that one hurt lots!

I know a couple of really talented artists in town now, if anyone wants a referral!

I have 1:

Captain America- its pretty big, starts at the top of my left shoulder and goes half way down my arm. I got it in trade from a tatoo artist in Denver while I was shooting a photo story on tatoos and piercing.

I plan on doing some tribal designs on my right arm and neck when (and if ) I lose weight.

Get Lacuna in here, she's got a serious amount of tatoos.

kripes tiki, i've only got 4
besides that, they're all old now and in serious need of touch-up work.

lemme see... i've got one on my back... starts at my left shoulder and goes down 10-12 inches. it's a tropical bird with long tail feathers sitting on a branch... i think there may be clouds and a butterfly somewhere in there too... can't remember and am too lazy to go look haha. anyways.. it took 16 hours from start to finish. it was done in 4, 4hour sessions. i won a first place trophy for it at a tattoo convention.
(my mother thinks that when i get old and my skin starts to sag that bird will be sittin on my ass.....)

i've got a lil red devil on the back of my other shoulder...didn't take too long to have done. was my first tattoo and i hate it. it will be covered up!

i've got a flying dragon just above and on the outside of my left knee...this one took a couple of hours... am contemplating having it covered or maybe just reworked...

and i've got a toucan on the outside of my right calf... it's not finished as of yet so there's only about 3 or 4 hours in it....but will be eventually. am planning on having other stuff added to this one...just not sure what/where yet.

obviously... take your time in deciding on getting a tattoo and also really check out the studio where you're getting it done!

4's not that bad - my li'l sis has 8, and would have more if she had the $$!

Get plenty of references for the artist you're interested in, and seriously check out their work... Nothin' worse than trusting some guy to slap some permanent ink on you and then hear the word "Oops!" come out of their mouth...

And think really hard about what image you want on your body for the rest of your life!

Yannah - getting a tattoo on the back of your hand is oh so very painful! The closer you are to the bone, the worse it hurst...

Be careful with henna - the wrong stuff can make you very ill.

quote:
A *REAL* HENNA TATTOO COMES FROM A MIXTURE OF CRUSHED HENNA LEAVES AND LEMON JUICE AND LOOKS REDDISH BROWN ON YOUR SKIN.
BUT UNSCRUPULOUS TATTOO ARTISTS NOTICED PEOPLE WANTING DARKER... BLACKER TATTOOS.. SO THEY STARTED ADDING PHENYLENEDIAMINE.. OR P-P-D.. A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DYE USED IN BLACK HAIR PRODUCTS.
IT'S *SO* DANGEROUS THE F-D-A SAYS IT'S ILLEGAL TO USE IT FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN HAIR DYE..
.. AND THEY'VE GOT A STACK OF MEDICAL JOURNALS TO PROVE THAT IF YOU LEAVE THIS ON YOUR SKIN.. IT ACTS AS A TRANSDERMAL TOXIN THAT WILL LIVE IN YOUR BLOODSTREAM FOREVER.
IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR KIDNEYS.. YOUR LIVER.. AND COULD EVEN HAVE *FATAL* CONSEQUENCES.

*sorry for the yelling - the transcript uses caps...*

It's on my calf. It come from the first cross ever,

from that. It also represents the four elements, with
the center being the sun, north fire, south water, west
wind, east earth.

When I was 12 years old I wound some cottom round a sterile but blunt needle and began tha painful task of pricking my full name into my forearm... I completed about 20 pricks when my mother walked in the kitchen and slapped me silly... That ended my tattoo adventures for life.... (thankyou mother) My dog has a little tattoo on his ear though... does that count?
