Here's a chance to turn it into a legitimate discussion: Why do people feel a need to vilify those in the spotlight, usually as "sell-outs," just because they're making money at something they enjoy?

Typically, the recording industry will take advantage of individuals who are, in fact, truly talented, and turn them into pure image. They'll give an artist a few songs with a hook, oversaturate the market with his product until it's time for someone new, suck him dry and let him go.

Yet, the artist gets all the criticism. If faced with a multimillion-dollar contract, there are very few people who wouldn't also "sell out" to do what they love in the big time.

And for your information, Billiejoegurl, I find it extremely hard to push off on a skateboard, thankyouverymuch.

I agree, it's hard to sell out when you never had something to sell in the first place. (also I've always been against the whole "band selling out" idea but that's kind of a different conversation).

Avril is a product of the music business, her image and persona is carefully crafted and everyone seems to know it, just as Brittney and Christina's personas are crafted, it's just the biz. If you don't like it then don't buy it, but there's no point getting pissed about it that's just the way it is.

Selling out isn't just that. It's when you compromise yourself, your integrity/morals for the sake of making money. And I'd say each to their own, except the market saturation with these kind of acts is:
A: Preventing me from discovering new music which I would really enjoy. Even if I don't buy it, doesn't mean the less discerning won't and doesn't prevent me from hearing it.
B: Actively giving a bad name and misrepresenting the groups, such as skateboarders who are being sold out.
It's also interesting how the biz isn't criticized biz for spending so much on marketing and promotion (or at the least there's nonchalance over it), but will gleefully bash them for going about the music downloading issue all wrong. Despite the fact that this is an issue which arises from CDs being overpriced.

I saw this Avril Lavigne once, very quickly, in an interview TV program. And I saw her once singing (singing?) in some big time event in TV also. From what I saw and heard, she looks too much teen (I think she is teen), she looks sort of desperate (don't know why), and she sings very badly. I can't stand listening to her music. But, it seems that a lot of people like her. Well, a lot of people like Bush, others like cockroaches, others like lobster, so, there is always a taste for everything... There are even people that likes me, mostly my mother and daughters.

Speaking of cockroaches, the other day my wife walks into the kitchen and screams, and I go running in just in time to see this monster cockroach scurry across the floor and underneath the sink. I grab the Raid™ and just let loose with it under the sink. Then we stood back and waited. Thirty seconds later the thing bolts out from underneath the sink like billiejoegurl out of an Avril Lavigne concert and slams into the wall on the other side of the room. Then it flips over on its back and starts going into spasms. It finally died a few minutes later.

My wife wanted me to get rid of the thing as quickly as possible, but I just had to measure it to see how big it really was. It was 4 cm, which isn't all that big in the greater scheme of things, I suppose, but it's big when you consider that most Korean cockroaches are 1-2 cm in length. This one must have gotten into the kimchi and mutated or something. I would have taken a picture but my wife was getting hysterical. Something about it being the kitchen and how was she supposed to prepare food with a dead monster cockroach on the floor. So I threw it out.

About the topic...
I think Billijoegirl would realise what exactly she is trying to do or say in here, well I just HOPE.

I quite remember that I did two, probably not two let's say one that is *quite* the same as her topic. But that doesn't prove anything that I'm like her. She's just doing this to make herself comfortable as where I didn't. I did it because I was annoyed and resented by my so-called friend who loves Avril Lavigne so much. But I listen to her CD, and I even got her album. So there you go, the truth lies within the poster. If Billiejoegirl would only take a chance to listen to all of it [ the CD ], she'll probably understand that Music Industry's like that. They don't care about the talent, they care about the appearance of whom they have got.

Having her album doesn't make me an Avril Lavigne lover.

In Brazil, a cockroach of 1-2 cm is a baby cockroach. Usually, cockroaches there have around 5 cm but you can easily come across bigger ones. When you smash a Brazilian cockroach, there is a lot of cockroach "juice" around to clean...
Here in the USA, I haven't seen a cockroach yet, one year almost after getting here. Amazing.

Actually, they do have plenty of cockroaches in the States as well. I guess you've just been lucky so far.

I've heard things about South American cockroaches, though. Apparently one of your guys took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and ended up here.

Also, I must admit that I've never heard of Norah Jones. But I live in a cave, so that's not surprising.

Still speaking about Avril, a little research in Internet taught me that the biggest cockroach is the "Megaloblatta longipennis" that can be 10 cm long (wingspan of up to 18 cm).
That's horrible, man! A thing like this, flying around, we would need a gun to shoot it down.
So they are big and that explains the "megalo" part of its scientific name but what about the "longipennis" part?

yes...

Periplaneta americana are about 4 cm on average... except for the ones they're breeding for freshmen-cut-em-up-courses...
Ours (a female) was at least 8 cm long and had an egg-thingy (just imagine a chewinggum pack, but filled with eggs) of about 4 cm...

was a paint to remove her mouth-tools as well... everytime you tried to cut one of, the dead cockroach would turn the head the other way...
(I ended up giving her a 'headshot' with a needle... that way she was only able to move that far *g*)
