Maybe it's just me, but calling that 'political humor' is stretching it quite a bit. Calling it humor at all is still reaching real far.
Don't get me wrong, I get what you're going for, and I've listened to him speak in public, and all that. And I realize that anyone and everyone in the public eye will be poked fun at, including every president, king, queen, dictator, etc, perhaps especially them.
But a picture of him reviewing his speech, and the comment 'line-by-line, word-by-word?' I'm willing to bet there are very few, if any, presidents (or anyone else giving a big speech for that matter) that don't go through their speech at least a few times before they present it.

::shrugs:: Of course it could just be me...

eh, yep.....I'm confused as to how that's funny at all....

I guess I see what you're attempting to poke fun at....sort of....but even giving a whole lot of leeway, and actively trying to find it amusing, it just isn't.

He's reveiwing a speech, as anyone who gives a speech would do.

Where's the comedy? Comedy is falling into an open sewer and dying, not reviewing a speech. Even I'm funnier than that, and that's saying a lot.

Surely you guys can see the irony between the caption and the current buzz right? And surely you're aware that lots of jokes and humor employ irony? So you *can* indeed see how someone might find this funny right? Especially depending on their perspective? Don't be so thick, thick ass muthas.

I think it's on a par humor wise with George W Bush's own well known "ice-breakers". If you're not familiar with those, another parallel, hmmm, as funny as say, a train wreck. Haha. =

Its kind of funny. You would think a speech that was gone over line by line, word by word, wouldn't have contained some of the information that it did.

JKMabry: Irony? I didn't think Americans did irony and had to rely on people like Alanis Morrisette to point it out

Does that mean that this is ironic (its cracking me up whatever it is)?:

Uh...no. No I don't.
And yes, I am well aware of irony, its uses, its effectiveness in humor. Thanks for the implication though....

But the issues at hand that could possibly make this funny (or even ironic) are so far removed from the idea of GW reviewing the speech that the irony (and thus the humor) don't even apply.

His "icebreakers" on the other hand are extremely amusing, for completely different reasons than he intends, obviously....

In reference to Emp's link: It sickens me when people insist you leave the country for exercising your right to criticize your government, while at the same time supporting the dismantling of a foreign government for oppressing its people for the same thing.

But I guess that's what he meant by irony.

Yes - democracy is the only way, and we'll kill anyone who disagrees.
Those are the people who, when you feel that the human race *can't* be that stupid, can't be that hopeless, give you a good solid dose of reality.

... on that note... I dont remember any jokes about Roosevelt, or Kennedy, or even Bush Sr. I'm not saying there ever werent any, I wasn't alive then, or was too young to hear them, but I think that it all depends on what the leader presents himself as. In other words, think of the quotes we read from FDR, or other truly Great presidents/other leaders, they are always eloquent and senseful. This is how people will remember those late presidents. But Bush Jr.? What will he leave behind? The digits of budgets? The monkey faces? hmmm... I dont recall hearing any respectful things about him... I think there's a clear distinction between "every president, king, queen, etc" and Mr. George Walker Bush.

So above said, that caption does seem kind of funny. They dont write captions like that to Pope's photos, or even Queen Elizabeth's ...

oh... and watch him (W.) get reelected...

asptamer, actually, Dana Carvey had a pretty good Bush Sr. imitation thing going on Saturday Night Live which he's rehashed to do Bush the Younger. I thought it was funnier the first time around.

silence - Did you see when Bush Sr. and Dana Carvey got together (I don't think it was too long after his finished his term), and Bush did an imitation of Carvey doing an imitation of himself, with the, "Not gonna do it... Nope, not gonna do it."
It was actually really funny.

of course, if there were a photo of the pope, or the queen, reviewing a speech.....I'm pretty sure there would be a similar caption...
