This must be the most retarded thing I've seen all week.
I just can't believe a big, e-commerce site could be this stupid...
http://www.buymusic.com/

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, view the site in any other browser besides IE for Windows.

Things that really irk me about this site:

1. The very fact that they only support ONE browser on ONE platform.
2. That they provide no entry for anyone who's not using this browser.
3. That the site doesn't even look bad in other browsers.

If you want to see what I mean by #3, disable Javascript in your non-IE browser*. Visit the site again. WTF?

*[In Mozilla, go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts & Plugins and uncheck Javascript for Navigator.]
*[In Firebird, go to Tools->Options->Web Features and uncheck Enable Javascript.]
*[In Opera, go to File->Preferences->Multimedia and uncheck Javascript.]

Just goes to show you how ignorant people can be...

Just spread the word... let people know...

What the fuck, why would people take the effort to lock a site for every browser except X?
There is someting going on, there is absolute no reason to do this with the modern (almost)standard compliant browsers. Unless you want a specific trick pulled by a specific browser with JS enabled....

Actually (and very unfortunately), I think it is more of a "let's be dicks about apple's itunes" kind of thing.

I do recall reading about buymusic being pointedly windows oriented....

Shot them an e-mail letting them know they've lost a customer until they remove the needless ban.

If you can't find it, here's the link to their contact form: http://www.buymusic.com/support/email.aspx

because they only care about the big numbers.

And guess what? The big numbers use IE on windows.

Why? Because they don't know any better. And these people don't give a shit about people. They care about profits. And what's profitable? Breeding contempt.

Hell yeah....

{{edit - for the record, that was partial sarcasm there....}}

Um... Ever hear of Microsoft .NET? Buymusic is written totally with it. Since when has Microsoft developed/sold a programming tool/environment that supported anything other than their own platforms?

So it may not have been a decision to exclude other browsers/platforms as much as it was a decision to use a Microsoft programming tool. I'm not defending them here, what they've done is reprehensible, but they may not have even known it would happen until it was too late.

In fact, the decision was probably due to something I call "the wet-tie syndrome".

Some suit (who needs the helldesk to assist with sending email) drooling over a PowerPoint presentation (a Pavlovian reaction for those types) at a Microsoft seminar decided the magic must be real because, well, they gave him a pretty bag of literature that says it does.

<edit>And a really cool pen he could take home after signing the deal with it.</edit>
