Can anyone recomend some good hosts for posting a site I'm on the search for a new place to set up also I want one that doesnt plaster the page with their own advert banners resulting in my page being pushed to the bottom of the screen
Cheers

splodge: Welcome - you might want to tell us your requirements - server-side scripting, space, bandwidth, etc. and from the sounds of it you are looking for free space or are you?

There are some FAQs that deal with this but let us know what you want then we can throw in some advice.

Aight
Least 50 Mb of disc space
2 to 4Gb of Data transfer
PHP 4.2.3 or equivalent
Perl , cgi-bin support......might wanna sell online later
SSL security also
HOST BANNERS I deffo dont want my last site was like a billboard
Potential to uprade to a higher spec if needed
Minimal cost where possible
Not fussed about domain being a .com/net/biz etc
Server side scripting I havent the skills to do

Wish list of added extras would be ASP support and a good help line

This would be fine for my needs ..wanna develope more before i get too fancy and I aint working at the mo so cost is crucial
Bandwidth I dunno , might need some help on this same for free space Whats the difference here?
Cheers mate

Word to the wise...most hosting packages do not come with a domain, you have to register that youself, although you can register it through your hosting provider most times, it's really something you should do yourself. We've had stories here before of people who's domain has suddeny gone offline or been sold ot someone else becuase their provider neglected to renew it after the x years subscription was up.

www.0catch.com may interest you. it had been mah current host,. I am stopping using it because it has been acting weirdwith images lately (really weird), but i guess thats the cost for 100 mb free ;P (well, taht and a reasonable amount of banners).

For a free doamin... www.cjb.net It may be choppy for people, but not less useful.

Ok thanks skaajj Emp and Alevice all good stuff you shared there
About that free space deal. is that banner free and meets my requirments?
Not to sure what the difference is between free space and hosted basically if i go look right now at the first page on this site or any other there are no banners...thats what I'm after plus all the other specs i mentioned
If so any links you got would be welcomed
cheers

So I'd say no.

I don't think you're going to find a good, free, banner free host, for good host where you pay for them but get very good service...I'll always suggest Running Wolf, a mother of a hosting service run by this board's very own Pugzly.

Nowadays you can find good hosters for $1 a month to around $10 a month.
Take a look at this forum to get some feedback on a hosting company: http://www.webhostingtalk.com
Take care because there are a lot of scum out there, but also a lot of serious business. Search, research before signing and never pay more than one month in advance until you have enough experience with the company.
