Topic awaiting preservation: G3 iBook any good?

Hi.
I've been offered to buy an almost brand new G3 iBook w 14,1" screen, DVD- plus legal software for a measley sum of appr $525 from a guy I know that needs cash badly.

I think it's got OSX 800 mhz, CPU ROM/CD-RW, Wifi, 40Gb hd and 256 Mb RAM but I'm not sure yet, havn't checked it out personally yet.

I need a laptop and I have thought about a Mac PowerBook G4 12" or 15" for a while as a reference machine (I'm a mainly PC guy) and I'd like to know how much difference it is in performance between these machines.

I'm going to use it for writing and light web-development, no 3D rendering or insane graphic work, but that doesn't mean I'd like to settle for a slow dog of a machine even if the price is good.

Anyone has experience with iBooks and like to share it?

I had an iBook 600 until last Dec, and it was a GREAT little machine. The iBook is very light, completly silent and very rugged (just don't play basketball or frisbee with it). I used it for coding web pages and ran everything from Flash to Photoshop on it, I even used it to visit the 'darkside' by running Virtual PC. This enabled me to code VB applications.

The iBook is a very well designed notebook and is plenty fast.

no wait, Then it would be a loverly machine. I don't know what kind of machine you are used to, but to me, that is not slow. (it probably runs faster than my desktop)

For $525, that's a great deal, imho. Though it sounds a little dated and I'd try and get some extra RAM in it if possible, it sounds perfectly fine for what you're going to do.

Actually I'm a PC-guy and has been for appr 10 years
I did start on mac though, but "the industry" turned me :P

I've got 3 stationary pc's
(486 for linux experiments, my old homebuilt 633 celeron and my main 1,7 Ghz P4)
plus one stationaly at work, plus an old rotten IBM celeron laptop with a shot battery through work (on loan) that I avoid like the plague.

The one thing I don't have access to is a mac to use as a reference machine on web-work, that plus the fact that I need a small light laptop for writing on the move made me look at Mac, two birds in one thow so to speak.

I'll try to borrow it for a test drive before I decide.

i have a ibook and they are sweet little puters, just dont run osX casue it kinda crashes alot.. make sure you to os10.2
