napster tries again, a story published on slashdot the other day. this time it seems to be 100% legal, since you have to pay for every song.
check napster.com for prices

It's a bit of a break from regular CD prices... but not really that much. They've come back down to about 12-13 bucks now. instead of the 15-17 they were charging before. I still think it should be all online and about .50 a song. Maximum. I am much more inclined to support my favorite bands... if I'm actually sdupporting my favorite bands. Buying CD's isn't going to do much more than line a recodring executives pockets. Personally I think that the bands should start cutting deals with radio stations and distributing their music online by themselves. The technology is there and it isn't that costly anymore. Basically the bands should ditch the recording industry and make money for themselves. That would bring the cost down and give the bands the freedom to release songs as full albums or as they are completed. I think the recording industry is stifling the production of music and making it more and more difficult for the bands to reach their fans. Whatever happened to 'local boys do good by themselves' and make a name for themselves? it disappeared after the recording industry started snapping up all the local shows and stompiing everyone else into the ground because they 'were good, but not good enough to make the big scene'. Well maybe the scene is too big now and it needs to become more real.

That's my 2 cents anyway. Well.. maybe 4 cents but... you get my drift.

Hmmm... Napster doesn't mention if these are tethered Downloads or not. If that isn't an issue there is a place called PressPlay... Dangit... Now I'm pissed. Napster stole PressPlay. PressPlay was supposed to be a service that... for 19.95 a month you could DL what you wanted in thethered MP3 files. There wasn't a limit to how much or a per song charge. You just couldn't burn the music onto a CD. Or there were limited burns to a CD or something. That service was morphed into Napster, which is now charging far more for the music. *sigh* It's the same issue as CD's, just digital.
