I am on a computer that uses internet explorer to view jpg's. I want to change it so it uses the windows default image viewer instead of IE. Can anyone help me change the file association?

Usually, you can do it from Windows Explorer: Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, select jpg (later do the same with jpeg) in the list, and somehow with the controls below the list you should be able to set the program that file type opens with.

Double click on My Computer, Go to the File menu and select Folder Options.

Click on the "File Type" tab, scroll down to the the desired file extention.

Click the "Change button", and select the program you wish to associate with the file extention.

Ta Da, Association changed.

I believe it's WinXP, you know, it's the most famous one.
So, if it is, in a Windows Explorer window, right-click any .jpg image, choose "Open with..." then "Choose program..." and finally choose "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" (don't forget to select "Always use the selected program bla bla" option in this same dialog.

you know what I hate about 2k/XP?

you can't overwrite 'notepad.exe'... no matter what...

bastards...

I have to set editpad classic to 'notepad2.exe' and set the txt files to that... but the 'view source' is still in regular notepad.. stupid piece of crap...

Petskull:

It sounds like you need a different browser. Try one that lets you set the application to use for "view source".
Also, you can replace "notepad.exe", but you have to make the change in 3 different places. For W2k, the places are "winnt", "winnt\system32", "winnt\system32\dllcache". Of course, installing a service pack overrides the change.

jd- yeah.. unfotunately it's tough to change the browser when testing pages is the only reason I keep IE around...

I hate Moz's view source thinger, too..

Exactly the same way that jstuartj described.
