i'm always a bit apprehensive about posting a new topic in this particular forum, but here i go:

first off, i hope no one objects to me using the asylum colors for some of my outcydr projects. if so, speak up.

it's pretty "plain jane" compared to some of the skins out there, but i didn't want to try anything fancy my first time out. i've only been using winamp for a few weeks, since i read about it in one of the threads here, so i'm NOT a very experienced user, let alone skinner. i've enjoyed making it, and if nothing else, i'll keep it for myself. i think maybe it needs some asylum blue, maybe in some of the bg colors? anyway, any comments, critcs, or suggestions are welcome.

by the by, i'm using Winamp 5.0rc8. it's great in classic mode, but my (really) old computer chokes on the modern skins. if anyone wants a test drive ok, but i'm not making any promises. i learned my lesson on that when i got married! God rest her soul. what i need is someone or two to test it out for me and be sure i haven't made any gross or stupid mistakes. why?
because i don't know anybody (i'm a loner *see my handle) or anybody else that uses winamp. so, if you're interesting and have the time, let me know and i will finish zipping this up and send it out. if not, then i will be like gollum and this will be my precious.

Any chance of working that background blue in anywhere (tricky request I know but.....)?

GrythusDraconis was working on an asylum winamp skin at one point. i don't recall what version he was skinning for, but you may wanna hit him up for possible advice. possibly collaborate?

Would not be great to have your Asylum AstonDesktop theme acompanying(sp?) your fresh winamp2/3 with an Asylum skin, and at the same time a crazy and uber whacky Windowblinds skin?! OMG TAHT WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO ON YOUR COMP!

Yeah, I made one a while ago that was just an overlay for WinAMP 3.0. I don't know any Xml so I wasn't about to move things around. I was ambitious enough to think about doing a whole set of Asylum Skins for most skinable programs. Then I realized i didn't know how to do anything So I'm learning. This is how mine turned out. The blue is there it is just difficult to see. WinAMP 2 is far easier to work in and much lighter on the resources. I've been looking there to.. ahem... hone my skinning skills.

People should read the tutorial on the winamp site. It is pretty explanative and help a lot when trying to make a wa3 skin.

GD: I know what you mean about winamp2 being easier than 3 but from what i've read over there, xml should be fairly easy if you know your basic html (which i barely do). i started using 2.91, like i said, only a few weeks ago and was using "Skinners Atlas" template skin to learn with (which by the way is off on the genex.bmp and needs updated). winamp3 sucked for me, again, like i said before, it choked my old p2 233 pretty bad. that's basically why i went with the classic skins. then i discovered winamp5 (3 is no longer being developed). basically the 2 core with improvements and your choice of classic (winamp2) or modern (winamp3) skins. of course you probabably already know this. i've heard a lot of people griping about winamp3, saying they will stick with 2, but i think 5 is on the right track. if i ever get a new computer ( *prays to Santa) i will venture to say i will be climbing out on the xml limb and trying my hand at a "modern" skin. time will tell. until then i best be finishing some of the things i already started (or NOT).

You could use the dark blue for the background of the readout screens like the playlist and such. That would really make it Asylumish.

well i tried putting this on my regular site but it would only download an empty file in IE, then i had some other issues over there, so i grabbed a free account at freewebs and it seems to work ok. don't know for how long though.

it's only about 30k if you want it as is

i haven't worked on it anymore but am going to put in the blue for sure. i want to put in some other easter eggs too -- like the Asylum name on the title bar or something, but i guess i'll need doc's permission for something like that. maybe "the llama loves black pills"
or something.
anyway, i'm still open to any suggestions.
