Do you know if learning gmax is compatible with learning 3dsmax? As in, once the learning curve is crested in gmax, is there an easy transition to 3dsmax?

Gmax is basically a watered down version of 3dsmax, but without a render engine. its real use is modelling for games....

Now as its based on 3ds max and now that version 1.2 is out which supports scripts written for 3ds max its a powerfull tool.

As for learning 3ds max, yup its a great way to go, the interfaces are almost identical, the tools etc are aswell...

so if you want to practice modelling go ahead. as you can see its possible to do some great stuff with it...

and its a very easy transition to 3ds max, although i know a few people that didnt like gmax who work with 3ds max because all the features arent there thatare in 3ds max... lol but then again gmax is free..

i have both on my system and quite happily jump from 1 to another

Thats cool... I've been tinkering with Blender2.25 from http://www.blender3d.org/ and while it is an excellent modelling tool and a competent game engine, and some guru's have perfected it's use like in this excellent short animation . I wanted to learn what the main game makers were using, 3ds max.

I had to laugh when I found out the price of 3ds max, not because of its dollar to value ratio, but for it's cost to usability ratio for me right now.

It's not like I have a couple grand cluttering up my wallet to plunk down on a program I dont know how to use...

Now I just need to download that damn 'Talent' Plugin... ooh and the 'Extra Hours In A Day' Plugin...
