My mom is going to buy a pc pretty much soon...

I recomended to buid her one, but she wants all that guarantee and such...

so we looked ta dell first...

Pentium 4
2.80 GHz
256MB DDR memory
Hard Drive 80 GB
DVD rom
CD-RW
Graphic Card GeForce FX 5200 128 MB
with17" monitor, mouse and keyboard for $949, if you want flat screen add $289

now I also went to our new and the only COMPUSA in Puerto Rico..

the stuff there is damn expecive, so I looked at average stuff:

Pentium 4
2.60 Ghz
512 MB DDR memory
120 GB hard drive
DVD-CD RW combo
CD rom speed 48x
but it has the crapiest graphic card: Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 with 64 megs of shared video memory.
comes with keyboard and mouse, but without Monitor for $900....
the rest of the stuff was over 1000, with fancy bullshit all over the place...

the problem is I dunno what to chose, both are great for my mom, but the point is I want to be able to run 3D games...

the second one seems like crap for 3D stuff...

maybe people here know some better places or deals where I could order computer...

mmm... I just got a dell like that for my grandmother... I have not played any games on it, but i have tried out a 3d program on it and painter. I did not run into any problems at all.

It is a pretty good deal I think, although you can get much more bang for the buck if you build it. But getting a premade computer that works perfectly is alot of fun.

Dont buy it off the webpage though, call them up and try to get a better deal on it. I think i got 150$ off mine.

I dont know why you would need more than 80 gigs of HD for quite a bit of time... but 512mb of memory is nice.

I would not go with the compusa computer.

The Graphic Card GeForce FX 5200 128 MB can be found online for $57.
The 256 extra RAM is probaly more noticabe then the 200 MHz speed difference.

And for a possibly better computer try searching for a Super Dell from Totally Awsome Computers. Sounds odd but I have not seen anything but good reviews on them. I will get back with an address for that when I have some more time.

Here is the link for the Totaly Awsome Computeres. http://www.totallyawesomecomputers.com

My suggestion is go with the Dell unless you can get a monitor/video card for a good price.

But for someother venders check here http://www.ocforums.com/vb/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=9f7d858615682b1051fd367cb2783d85&forumid=10

the

DVD rom and CD-RW does the same thing as the DVD CD-rw drive... unless you meant it is a DVD RW... but the way you phrased it... might wanna look into that.

Seriously everyone needs to know how to build their own PCs. I can build that first system for about $600 Failing that, get to know your local computer store (Not the CompUSA but the little mom & pop type place). They can usually do the same.
