I wonder what the truth behind that one is?

They talked about that on the news this morning - and showed the Closed Circuit video of the courtyard. Very weird - I must admit. Looked very like a real person to me, but was ephemeral enough to cause doubts...

Don't you just wish they would catch this kind of photo op with some really good equipment?

At this time of year Hampton Court is full of staff most of whom are dressed in traditional costume - it wouldn't suprise me if one or two are sneaking out of doors to have a sneaky fag and then not owning up when they set alarms off (or some passing person closing fire doors which had blown open). That said it does look a little spooky

An animated gif of the CCTV footage:

One question - if it is CCTV why does the camera move like that?

mas: My guess (if that is a rip straight from the TV footage) is that someone filmed it on a hand held camera out of a window and then used a frame every 3 seconds or so to get the CCTV look to it.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had finally gotten some video footage of a realy ghost? I wonder if that will ever happen?

If you look at the image shown on the MSN site, you can see that the animated GIF image is severely cropped. My immediate guess is that whoever assembled the GIF did a really sloppy job of cropping the original frames, making the field of view shift erratically.

Wes: Yes I think that is right (I'd just heard from people that was what they thought the footage looked like on TV) - here is the actual footage (allegedly as I am fighting RealPlayer on this one):

Given the compression of comparing images for the web, I took a zoomed look at that image in PS just to see what I could see... It looks almost intentionally blurry in places surrounding the figure. Could be a result of taking the frame from film, or processing for the web or any number of things...
That's why I made the comment about catching it on good equipment.

These kinds of things come to light periodically, and 9 out of 10 times they are proven to be hoaxes.
Wonder what Snopes has to say about it? Now I have to go look...

It'd be nice to actually have some real genuine footage of paranormal activity, but with the past history of the "science", it just doesn't seem likely... know what I mean? I'm sure that ghosts exist in some form, but we've not previously had the technology capable of really proving that they do. One just doesn't want to jump to conclusions before all the evidence is examined thoroughly...

edit: checked Snopes - nothing yet. For sure there will be directly!
