Topic awaiting preservation: Web Hosting and Domain Name (Page 1 of 1)

One of my teachers asked me what a good place to register a domain name and buy hosting was, and I told her dreamhost, but I don't know if there is another better alternative. Any advice within the next hour would really help.

I use www.hostrocket.com and have never been anything but happy with them. I've used them for the past 3-4 years and have hardly had any downtime at all.

Additionally, Pugzly runs www.runningwolf.com and I believe he hosts several Asylumites.

for hosting i used http://www.3sp.com

Domain Registration is $9US a year at Godaddy.

I've been looking into hostrocket very seriously since Krets mentioned it to me (Thanx!). Best transfer rate per doller I've seen. If your teacher is just looking for something small... I would just use Godaddy. They have excellent service and great prices IMO.

I use webhost4life and have never had a problem.

Whatever you do, don't go to these guys. I was with them for a month and my site was down at least an hour every day. Excuse every time: Server is rebooting. Lesson learned, you really do get what you pay for.

When I registered for the Solo plan, I was told they have 200,000 clients. I was in shock throughout that entire phone call.

Not within the first hour, but next to RunningWolf I reccomend using 5dollarhosting.com they have everything you need for a basic website at only $5 a month if you pay the $60 for the year. There might also be a small setup fee, but I haven't registered with them in a while.

Well... the teacher decided to go wiht this. (Apparently it's cheap and "won a best award.")

I'm a but supicious of some of the stuff, so has anyone had any experinece with this host? Thanks for the suggestions!
