As a science-fiction and science addict, I love to gaze at the stars and learn more about our universe. Furthermore, I often find galaxy pictures to be very inspiring when I create abstract wallpapers.

Lately, I discovered a new one thanks to Hubble News. "A collision of two galaxies has left a merged star system with an unusual appearance as well as bizarre internal motions. Messier 64 (M64) has a spectacular dark band of absorbing dust in front of the galaxy's bright nucleus, giving rise to its nicknames of the "Black Eye" or "Evil Eye" galaxy."

This page also contains a lot of galaxy pictures : http://www.astro.princeton.edu/~frei/Gcat_htm/cat_ims.htm

Just thought some of you might be interested.

yes...it *is* amazing. pictures of galaxies as well as other pictures from the Hubble are somewhat unbleiveable. like mas said it's hard to imagine that things like this exist.

absorbing dust? that sounds kind of freaky.

Good links Moon Shadow, I love visiting sites like these.
C:\ The dust particles absorb light and some other wavelenghts on the spectrum, causing the dark areas.

Absolutely magnanimous! Good job Moon Shadow. I have two hero's from this world. Carl Sagen was one of them. He'd be proud.
