Is there any way to detect which plugins are installed in IE?

Not directly. I have to say that has always been one thing done nicer in Netscape.

IE can be a complicated mess of detecing mime types and ActiveX controls usually with VBscript.

Here's a pretty good script (done by apple no less) for detecting the main 5 plugins
