pwhitrow: Well first what is the Phoenix browser?

Anyway my guess is that background-color: transparent isn't a well supported style and this is one of the browsers that doesn't support it. What browsers does it work in?

Emp,

Phoenix is based on the Mozilla *stuff* and is actualy not a bad browser.

style="background-color:transparent" is working in IE6, NN7, and Opera 7 (possibly others, havn't checked), so should be well supported.

pwhitrow: and if it is based on Moz it should work......

Hmmmm the problem is that it might be just a little too obscure to appear on most CSS compatibility charts. I'll have a nose (and perhaps this should go to the CSS forum?).

-moz-appearance, never heard of that one. Is there a site around listing all the custom -moz- css attributes?

[edit]

ah, found one, http://www.xulplanet.com/references/elemref/ref_StyleProperties.html

Great link Clay!

Phoenix is a redesign of the Mozilla browser component, similar to Galeon, K-Meleon and Chimera, but written using the XUL user interface language and designed to be cross-platform.

Quoted from the Phoenix homepage.

I've been using both browsers for some time now and the only difference I've noticed is that Phoenix loads a couple of pages faster than Mozilla, and the browser and popup windows opens up faster. The difference was/is bigger when using Linux...

Another similiar project is the Chimera for Mac OS X.
