We have done so.

One of my all time favorite movies, Blade Runner, of course. Roy Batty said that.

Javascript rocks. I love it and I want to keep working with it.

I know we've lost our tempers together you and I a couple of times but I am genuinely glad you are a part of this place, InI. Thank you very much for all of your awesome contributions I have plenty of other questions about new things I'm trying to learn and I'm relying on you to be there for advice

I have seen... the darkside. I have seen hours lost to a single missing semi-colon, days lost for the lack of a closing brace. I have watched grown men tremble in fear at the sight of nested for-loops. And heard the echos of anguished cries from those who failed to grasp the importance of case sensitivity. I have seen so many search in vain for the comfort and safety of a drag & drop IDE, only to find themselves at the mercy of a mere text-editor. I have seen those who fail to indent properly fall to ruin.....

Yes, I have seen the darkside of Javascript and am, at times, repulsed. Yet I cannot turn away.

Damn, you guys don't get out much do you?

Heh, I don't know what it is about JS that's so addictive. It's such a frustrating language to develop in but... I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for punishment. Although I think it's one of the easiest languages to get into, who doesn't have a text editor and a web browser?

Partially I think its the easy of the language, as well as the ease of getting the smallest script to do something. All you need is an html file and a browser, isn't that just great! I was hooked pretty quickly.

Js has a bad name though. Obviously it's all "open source", meaning that when you see it on your screen, you can basically steal the code that keeps it running, and why would you specialize in something that is so terribly open and vulnerable? It is underestimated as well. And that reputation is almost worse than the first one. Basically it comes down to "script is meant for simple and small things, like mouseovers. The more you use, the more unstable and crappy your site becomes."

But I say Nay!

Why wouldn't javascript be meant to create the most insane things? In the end it's just a tool, a language you can program/script in, and from that point of view, a "not meant to be" does not exist. Here we are with an structured and stable Object based language, a complete document object and event model that allows use of all kinds of graphic stuff, and albeit limited, still quite a lot of computing power.

So USE it!

Espcially now and in the [near and hopefully into the far] future. No modern browser at this point is even considering to adapt a different scripting model than the W3 DOM levels, and that is simply great. Netscape 4 and the old legacy IE standards are dead, and if you find a lonely living remnant of it, kill it! In time This might also clear javascript of its bad name, so that more people will come to specialize in it.

on a more serious note than my last post, my only beef with Javascript is realy not with Javascript. It is with all the "real" programmers who have given me shit about the inferiority of scripting (and the inference: scripters) because the code is not compiled.

I should probably mention that I do realize that many of you are "real" programmers who write "real" code.....

Anyways I almost wanted to hug microsoft when I found out about jscript.net!!!

So take that, "real" programmers, I can compile my damn code too. So there!
