hope the idea is new...

I got the idea during my vacation, now I finnaly got home to try this:

Yes, the stars have strange shapes, I'm working on it...
I did this with Vertical Spherize and Polar Coordinates.

This one is done with Polar Coordinates and Spherize afterwards, I think it looks better...

Does anyone have an idea how to keep the stars 'round' ?

I don't know how I'm going to use it as a sig yet, but I'm sure there is someone that has some good ideas what to do with it.

Well, I think it's cool, and I am actually trying to get a similar effect for a sig I'm working on. It's a cockpiut few of han and chewie going into hyperscpace. So if you could share the wealth. . .

I have not seen any one here do this yet... We have mixed polor chords and fire... but not stars.

I like it so far... my only idea for rounder stars would be to make them oblong in the first place, then when they are distorted they will become more spherical... not all that scientific, but it may work.

oh yah, the second one i likes a lot more. Feels as if the stars are zippin past me.

i have to say i like the second one the most. as it was said by eyezaer, it feels like your just zipping along. might be neat to even see a small rocket or ship of some sort rocking around in the star tube like an old atari game.

Haha... that screensaver still comes bundled with the latest Windows installation?

On the second one, though, I noticed some of the stars seem to have the trails going in the wrong direction (pointing out instead of in).

Neat effect, just needs a little bit more refinement.

I did it in reverse with actions.
Got two layers and kept resizing them smaller with actions, made 11 frames of each set of stars, some frames are missing in the above, but you get the idea.

edit: Heres with some more frames:

Nice trick Hugh, it works very well. Now I wonder if it can be combined with a noise filter to achieve this Star Wars effect...

Polar coordinates method, I only ran [filter>blur>motion blur] a couple of times before applying [filter>distort>polar coordinates]. I didn't use [filter>distort>spherize], instead I used [filter>distort>pinch] to make everything seem a little smoother.

It would be sweet if you could make animated brushes, the above would be great I'd say.

I first began with noise and contract, but finally Mahjqa's method proved to be a lot better...

The 'acceleration' is not looking great thought... Will see what I can do about it.

Edit : can't get it exactly right... Bha, that was a good entertainment

Oh and, congrats Mahjqa

Hey!

That would look pretty cool if you combined it with Mahjqa's fire effect. It would look like a meteor shower.

If you look closely at my stars you'll see that some appear to be closer than others, because they are moving with different speeds and have a different shade. I haven't seen this in the work of you guys. I think that this effect makes the 'universe' look less flat.
