Topic awaiting preservation: Extremely New with PS 7 ...help

I need help righ from the get-go apparently.
I have placed an object (rectangle) on the screen.
All I'm trying to do is change the background color of it.
Can't make it work.
What are the steps please.

well the steps could be, 1-open manual 2-read
does the rectangle already have a colour or has it been done with the rectangular marquee tool?
if it has been done with the marquee tool then click the forground colour on your tool box, select the colour you want, click ok then go to Edit-->Fill-->Foreground colour

If the rectangle already has a foreground colour then select your magic wand tool in the toolbox, click the rectangle to select it and continue as above

taylormade, here is a good piece of advice. Put your Photoshop manual in the bathroom. I've found that while"old material" leaves your body, it is the most opportune time to invite "new material." I have become quite familiar with Photoshop while using the shitter. You can't beat this learning atmosphere, however bad it may smell.

Read a section, flush, and then go experiment with your newly found knowledge (don't forget to wipe 'n wash). Guaranteed you will be a better Photoshop user.

Thats what I like about this place, always new techniques arriving to help speed up workflow
