Oops...

I guess this wasnt really an original or well researched question. I hope no one isnt to upset to see an old topic so lazily recalled into the forefront of the forum. But now that it is, maybe some people can show there 'eye' works.

Anyone got some good blinking eye gifs... ?

Ooh maybe I can recover face by saying this was a way to introduce another segment of Speed Painting?

Show your 40 minute eyes here!

errr... mine was a lot longer than 40 minutes.

<Oh...Nooo!

Those are some awesome eyes... Mine is just not contoured enough. My mouse control, even with afreshly de-goopified mouse, just doesn't cut the muster[or is it mustard?].

Although I am not too upset about the orb structure , it is the insertion into a face that makes me end up going for the cartoonish or surreal in order to compensate for my lack of facial duplication abilities.

note: Everyones eyes are great, but Mahjqa's blinker and synax's realism are exceptional... Nice eyes!

it has nothing to do with tablet vs. mouse. it has to do with your ability. there's some excellent artists that use just a mouse.
the more you practice, the more you observe, the more you ask for feedback/advice (and take it) the better you'll become at it.

Nice eye zipper! Care to comment on how you got the Iris radians?
Was it a radial blur or was it done with brush strokes?
Also, are you guys using any filters to get that gloss feeling with the highlights?

I am a filter whore, I use Flaming Pears [laquer] or Eye Candy's [glass] to set my highlights...

And...

it has to do with your ability

shhh... it's my mouse... but if I had a tablet it would be the ziffer zaffer zoof's fault anyway...

And about this 'practice' thing you speak of... pffft! I wont need that if I can afford the handy dandy Filternator 3000 with it's Artistic Ability Expansion Pack! And, they are going to support it with a Creativity Plugin as well!

Ok, the composition is "classic" but it was fun to try to remake it in ~35mins. The shapes are not quite round, due to my Parkinsonian way of using my tablet.

OK,,heh Eye know this isn't really what you meant.
I've just bought myself a graphics tablet only to realise that I really suck at drawing anything! But I'm finding that it is a bit of a learning curve to go through, before the "Wetware" can mesh with the Hardware

I did the iris using Noise, Motion Blur and Polar Coordinates afterwards. (mahjqa's idea) I don't use filters for the rest of the eye.
b.t.w. I did't made the skin around the eye myself
