Hey

Hope this is the right place for this subject.
Whilst doing some finalisation on a site using different browsers and different computers I came across a problem that's prety much set me back on the entire project.
I have several computers, P2,P3 and P4. the P4 shows images with gradients as being just as would be expected. yet the P2 and P3 show it as very 'woody' and with many steps as each colour progresses down the page. I should add that the images are of a high quality and other similar images on the net also have the same look to them.
Why is this?
The software is all different for each PC but I cant ever remember seeing a site whilst surfing with gradient images in them that appeared so ugly.
I have tried using this filter for IE only progid XImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(endColorstr='#000000', startColorstr='#ffffff', gradientType='0')
which I have to say is very good at what it does. But sadly it strangles a lesser PC's performance and all animated effects on the page slow to a veritable stop. So its not very practical.

Dont know if anyone out there has any advice on how to achieve a more PC friendly means of graduating a colour over an entire page or a reason as to why gif/jpg images appear so bad but I would appreciate some feed back if nothing it would indeed enlighten me.
Looks like I may have to revert to standard colours also. Sigh.

Thanks

Sounds like you need to up your color resolution on the P2 and P3.

Often the problem is the monitor color res, not the software (maybe the video card sometimes, but das harwere). Try setting your monitor to 24bit (True Color) and everything should look fine. I am stuck in 16 bit because of cursed ZSnes. :/

EDIT: cyoung beat me

Yup Yup!

That would be 16 bit color for you.... or... *gasP* 256? I dont think palm devices even use 256 any more though.

16 bit will screw ya every time though.
