My scanner is broken, so I took these with a camera. The quality sucks ass. Anyways, I drew these over a period of about 2 days. Crits and Comments would be appreciated (read: You MUST crit or comment).

C&C appreciated.

Or I will stab you. Thats what Just Joking...Anyways...

I see what you mean about the chiseled faces. In pictures 1 and 4 I really tried to sway away from them, but it's always easier to draw the super-toned face than the realistic face. I'll work on it.

Anything else, anybody?

Really?,,,,insists eh? Heh
Well here goes:
The first 2 and last one are good as ideas, perhaps open them up in PS (if u have it) and use it as a template to draw another version.
3,4,5 You have taken these further with more shape and shading. Each of these could be developed further still.
6 Has a different feel to it, more considered I think. As if it had a history behind it, which you could bring out with further work.
7,8 Even though both of these have a lot more work in them with shading and detail and style, it doesn't work for me. I think they are both drawn with a ballpoint, at least they look like they are, and therin lay the problem for me. I don't like ballpoint art.
But the work in them is good. I think the penultimate one would be even better had you done it in pencil or anything else, it's gruesome and brutal, just like the reality of war.
Out of all of them this is the first one I would try to develop.
Do you plan to work on them now they are in your computer?

Lacuna: The 7th one (the soldier/zombie) is/was going to (try to) be developed into a painting. When I get my scanner back from the shop. I just sent it in. It's broken, and untill then I won't have a good referance picture to paint over. When I can scan it in, I'll open it up in PS, fix some stuff compositionally, and then paint it in Painter.

The others, i'm not so sure. the 6th one is much better not photographed, and I wanted to do something with it.

(Lacuna?) Did you mean tao?
Ah I see I have never used Painter. I have recently bought myself a graphic tablet (Medion) It's huge!!! About 18"x 14"ish.
I've tried to use it on a few occasions and wanted to wail in frustration, my many faults in drawing skills seem to be magnified with the pen. I'm intimidated by it now heh.
Still, practise, practise, practise I know. I'm going through the FAQ's atm.
I look forward to see how the soldier/zombie develops when you get the scanner working again.

well seeing as I am the evil one around here. I must comment. The first ones where you used markers, well they bother me. not sure why, maybe in the sense of Atonal Music. But the shapes of the face are very strong, brutal even, but they are just shapes, ideas. I'd like to see them tied into the mutated one some how. Maybe wraiths of some sort flying around it. Pencil art seems to be my starting medium, but I have a tendency of finishing in thick broad edged marker. No examples at the moment sorry. The zombie soldier is putrid, which to the average human would mean awesome. Bring out the details more with black rather than blue ballpoint. I'd have to aggree with Tao on the ballpoint thing, seems alittle adolescent. Like Math time scribbles. Between the soldier and the mutant you have a good set of horror pics working, tidy them up, emphasize them, and add some more darkness. Perfect.

I'm sorry, but: What the hell?

That seems silly. The medium shouldn't matter. If I can make a masterpeice out of potato shavings, then by God, I've made a masterpeice out of potato shavings. What the fuck is the matter with drawing with a pen? (Heh, purist )
