I've seen it everywhere, most noteably on 2advanced web sites. It's that tiny unreadable text that people throw into very techy designs. I've tried getting the effect on my own and my type comes out extremly pixelated. Is there a specific font that I should be using, or is it not a font at all. Please help. I'll provide examples if anyone needs one. Thanks alot.

Text size: 1.

PS: People here don't like that. Trust me, I learned it the hard way.

I figured that people would call me trendy....but I just want to have a wide base of skills. If their's something I like I wanna know how to do it.

But I did try pixel size 1 with arial and it looks awful. What is a good font type to use????

So....am I the only one aghast at the question to begin with?

I mean.....you're asking how to type small?

Forgive me, but.....I mean......really....?

So a 'wide base of skills' would include being able to type small? Should I have that listed on my resume perhaps?

DL-44, I'm using this for a visual effect. Not for the purposes of displaying information. I am aware that it would be stupid and pointless to try and make informational text very small, but thank you for your sarcasm.

Oh and BTW DL-44, I find it a bit hypocritical that you dig on my asking a simple question when you yourself use the same technique in a sig of yours.

Try to be a little more considerate with new users.

First of all, I made no mention of using it for displaying information. It is very clear what your question was. The point is......you're aksing a question about how to make type, but.......small.

Forgive me if I assume that the answer is obvious, but......isn't it????

Second of all - that is not a sig. It is a button for the GN. And there is no small type there. There are a series of lines and dots is all. That was an imitation of the main page of my website at that time.

Third of all - I did not say anything about the use of the effect. Use it all you want. I am simply saying that - well, damn. You want type, but small? Well then....type something, and make it small!!

Does that clear up any confusion?

And the sarcasm is always on the house - no worries =)

Oh shit....so thats how you do it. You type text, and then make it small. SHIT I never even thought of that. Thanx DL!!!

The question I was asking was simply if anyone had any tips on making small text that looks good. I had tried just typing text and then making it small and it looked aweful. I was looking for tips on specific font types and other techniques that would lead me to a clean end result. Everyone else seemed to get that.

Despite your efforts at being sarcastic, YES, that's how you make text look small.

The reason why small text tends to look the pits is BECAUSE IT'S TOO DAMN SMALL... So, to answer your question "how to make small text look good" ... make it bigger.

You gotta forgive em' ink_e. I've noticed that self righteousness is somewhat of a trend with these two. But what can you expect, I think they're in about the 15 - 16 age range....(although I could be wrong. I apologize if I am).

But yep, smaller text (to about 1) is the method.

Well, I hope your question is now answered ink_e
I also hope everyone has been taking their medication! Well have you? We'll have none of that saving up tablets for a "special" occasion malarchy!
ink_e, I hope you don't feel as if you have been maltreated here, sometimes the comments we read can seem a little harsh, in both the question and the answers. The thing to remember is everyone comes here to share, help, encourage, teach, learn and sometimes entertain.
I have visited and joined many other Graphic/Web forums in my three or four years online, and I have no hesitation in saying the Ozone Asylum is the one that has helped me the most in my development, and the one I enjoy comming back to again and again.
Occasionally I have asked the most stupid or obvious of questions, and recieved a reply to let me know just how stupid it was. You just take it in your stride and know it was done with no ill intent.
How about showing some of the work you have been doing so we can see what use you are putting the text to ?

Let me reiterate again: the question was "how do they make that small text?"

Forgive me for not taking it very seriously.

And no, synax, I don't like to cause arguments. But I do speak my mind, and that very often causes people to want to argue with me...

Try the following:

Type in some text at the desired size.

Make a copy of the type layer. Place it under the original.

Rasterize the copy.

Blur the copy and set its opacity to 15%...25%.

This should add enough anti-aliasing to the text to make it look better.
