I was on a search and came to a site that I could not get out of by using the back button on my browser. I had to close and start my search over. It has happened before and never fails to make me mad. For people on dial-up it must be really bad.
How did they program that? I would hate to do it by accident - it is so annoying and rude. And WHY do they do it. What can they hope to gain by it?

The only real way to do this is to make a page that immediately forwards you to another page. Then, when one hits their back button, they only go to the forwarding page, which reforwards them.

However, it's easily worked around by clicking the little down arrow next to the back button in most browsers, and selecting the page that you want to go back to (2 items down the list, usually).
