I'm doing a web site for a hiking organization, and they will have a news/events page that may need to be updated weekly. Clearly, I'm not always going to be available to do their updates. Can anyone recommend a free or inexpensive content management software that I can connect to their page to allow them to make their own updates? This must be easy to use; I can assume that the people using it won't have any experience with HTML.

I know that many people also design their own content management system. How difficult is that to do?

gemannihilate: What kind of server-side scripting do you have available? If it is PHP something like DmS' script might be what you want:
www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/php/dynamic_php_mysql_1.html

if not then something like blogger might be what you need.

My hosting is through runningwolf.com, which I believe also hosts the Gurus Network. However, the tutorial you provided, I will admit, makes hardly any sense to me. I know hardly anything about MySQL and PHP, or databases for that matter. Apparently the databases class at my school teaches us how to do this; perhaps I should take that next quarter. Just looking for a quick fix in the meantime.

gemannihilate: Well if you are hsoted with Running Wolf then I assume you have access to PHP so that is a good start. Have a read through the tutorial - it is fairly straight forward and easy to implement and if you have any problems then ask in the PHP forum on the GN notice board and DmS or someone else will give you a hand.

If you want something straight forward there may be slightly simpler things out there but you'd really need to look at something like blogger.

I will sit down with it this weekend and try it out. If it doesn't work out, I'll check out Blogger. Blogger actually does look pretty user friendly, which would be good for the people I'm making the site for.
