See title, yeah. Anyway. A dutch game developer mailed me some time ago, saying they were needing an artist for title screens and additional graphics for their games. (ranging for simple PC games to pocketPC / mobile phones / gameboy advance games) I did some tryout work for them (see http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum3/HTML/002486.html ) and right now they want to hire me. Thing is, I don't have a clue how much I'll get / how much I should ask. It's freelance work, meaning they'll pay me per job, and I'm working at home.

examples of the stuff I do are at http://www.mahjqa.com and http:/sigs.mahjqa.com

Thanks in advance

Heh. Congrats, Mahjqa!!! Great to hear it! *turns green with envy*

Man, that's a dream job allright...well, with your skills...nice to see things turning out...

As for wage...hmmm...guess that depends on how much you think you are worth vs how much they are willing to pay...

I would go high, then bargain lower...but don't sell yourself cheap...you are worth much more than you think...

I think the Doc suggested doing such things on an hourly rate...but as I can't speak for him, I guess it's up to you...I always went on an hourly rate...but that was web-design stuff...maybe looking up what graphicers get as a going rate...and building from there?

Pay you per job or pay you per hour on the job?

I would imagine your salary would change with every assignment should they pay you by job. Of course I'm sure you'll be paid per hour since every assignment will be different. If you were installing one generic brand of fence around the same size plot of land with the same landscapes you'd probably charge a generic price because you know exactly how much it costs to create that fence. Since time and difficulty will vary assignment to assignment you'll wanna be paid per hour.

It just becomes a matter of what you think your time is worth. Ask the company what their willing to spend on a given project. If you aren't happy with the answer let them know you are very interested in working with them, but you would need more money. Be fair and everyones happy.

35? ?
now that must be a very good GD.

but 35? could be a good start, if they are goin to ask you, what you expect. they might go lower than anyways!
(always exagerate with money)

btw: mahjqa, speaking of your homepage. you might do something to that background. i dont like that green. and it doesnt fit to the beautiful logo in the upper left!

Slime;
1? = 0.978811 $
1$ = 1.02165 ?

So they're both pretty close, due to the US economic decline... To get an up-to-date conversion, check here: http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi (thank you, google.)

Anyway. I got the job (as freelance worker) and for my first job (a chess game makeover) I got ?400 for a 15-hour job, which makes for a nice ?26 per hour. It's quite propable that they ask me to do some additional graphics, but I can live with that. (hey, working at the supermarket earned me ?5 per hour, so who am I to complain?)

To avoid confusion; the chess pieces didn't take me 15 hours, I need to do additional graphics (interface work) too.

GRUMBLE: The green stays. Unless you have a suggestion for a replacement color... preferably easy to the eyes, and no black.
