Patrick: Looking good a few quick thoughts before bed:

1. The banner and its positioning really unbalance the page. I'd either centre it or try and fit it in a wider box with a similar patter as a background or something (that idea doesn't sound so good as I type it).

2. I'd not use those DDMs for navigation - they just don't look very nice and I had great fun with my mousewheel sending me to random pages once I'd got the focus on them (my own fault I'll admit but a thought). I might go for more of a DHTML menu which reveals the options when you click on the link (a more complex one was mentined in a thread started by FatRod in the DHTML forum). If someone had JavaScript disabled they would be useless and importantly I suspect they would stop site indexing robots in there track (a very bad idea).

3. Extra characters at the start of your TITLE tag are never a good idea and give me little idea what the button is when it appears as a button on my task bar.

4. I presume that not using capitals is trendy but it makes it very difficult for someone to scan your pages written content (people tend not to read most of the content on web pages).

5. Streaming radio - I listen to www.xfm.co.uk a lot at the moment (worth checking out).

The plans sound interesting and I look forward to developments. More later,

well I'd love to see the page with the CSS! For some reason my IE forgets that it is IE6 and totaly ignores the CSS link!

I'll try it again later.

Later,

Can I add something? The text is painful. Not only is it white on a mid-range gray, but it's a very small size and it's fixed. Maybe it's just because I'm late and tired and therefor my eyes are going, but I would go for a little more contrast (maybe) and bigger text--or at least relatively-sized text (definitely).

I have tried to make my main page using relatively-sized texts (www.viol.net/mohaa) but it's was pure pain. Things don't work the same in IE6, Netscape6.22, Opera6 and Mozilla0.9, the four brands of browsers that I use to test my pages. So, I gave it up. My main page is still fixed sized, so all those browsers do show the same thing.
But, my internal pages (all but the main one) are all done in relatively-sized texts, since they require less style formatting and so they show quite the same in those browsers.

Relatively-sized text?..... Um, relative to what? Relatively large maybe? anyway...

From what I can tell your specifying px sizes which is as fixed as they come. The largest you've set it to is 11px, with some things set to 9px. That's kinda small even for a 17" @ 1024x768. I'd suggest using 12px for most of the body type and increase the line-spacing to about 15px to 18px.

As emps also said, more contrast would be a boon too.

Drac: as in relative values (percentage, em, etc.), not absolute, for text sizes. Is there a term for this that I am unaware of?

Patrick: I wouldn't have those journal entries as just .txt files - they are virtually unreable and come as a bit of a suprise after viewing your site. Other than that it is shaping up nicely. Keep us informed on developments.

Ok make the banner either wider or align to left, and align your news column with your link column

edit: if you are trying to make a music page mainly devoted to metal/rock then try looking at some samples such as www.thrashpit.com or www.thegauntlet.com maybe it can influence you or give you an idea

Patrick: I think only you can decide the features but we can help you knock around ideas to make sure they are implemented well. Have a read through DmS' tutorial that he is submitting to the GN (and throw any comments you have into the 'Tutorial Submissions' forum):
www.dmsproject.com/test/gurustexts/design_1.html

Basically the features will grow out of things like the area you are focusing on and the audience you are trying to attract. We went over features a while back and my comments still stand there (links, albums with reviews, a band database pos. hooked into the albums) the key is to implement them well (oops repeating myself) and try and make them as sticky as possible so lots of user interaction (voting, adding comments, etc.)

Its this stage that is the trickiest - try not to flood your site with too many features and try not to loose the sites' focus (which is where the above tutorial comes in handy too).

Keep usinformed of progress.

OK I did it. My site has some bugs i figure but in my eyes the site will work in resolutions 800x600 and up. It stay in the regular window and there is no horizontal scrollbar. I now want to focus on getting readable sixe text but not too big to comprimise my site look and feel. I don't like big text cause it makes the site look ugly.

I am most likely going to switch servers and domains in about a week or so. At the latest June 8th. I will move over and post a link here.

I need to continue to fiinsh over the different details in my site but hopefully by the end of this month i will have a running working site with creative sections and try to be good for some one to use as a homepage.

thats all for now good night and I'm going to bed.
