i hope you weren't trying to spell saboteur this whole time...

it's not very often that a splash page is useful/appropriate for an intro. how about you hold off on the splash page until you can create stuff that would make most people delete their copy of photoshop after seeing how good you are? haha, just a thought.

the inside design is rigidly designed for 800x600 resolutions. i don't necessarily think such approaches are bad, though it seems like the majority of people around here demand 'liquid' designs that stretch or contract to the resolution of each individual visitor.

i can't believe you screwed up such a perfect color scheme. orange, black, gray... you could/should be having a total party with those. instead i feel that everything just blends together in mediocrity. i think a lot of that has to do with the poorly developed links and title. your letters are difficult to read with bad colors and outlines.

it's hard to point at one element and say, "fix that dammit!" instead i'd worry right now about spending a lot of time on the web looking at clean designs you think work and then spending even more time in photoshop trying to create something new while paying attention to presenting a clean, legible, and smart design.

easier said than done... just keep at it every day for the next few years you'll be good to go.

Since I haven't had a chance to welcome either one of you, I'd like to say welcome to the asylum.

About the site, I don't like the bright white text in the center text area, I'd like to see a darker color in there, The splash page seems to be a entrance page with a big image, almost 61k to be exact. There are three times when I find a reason for a splash page

  1. Used as a pre-loader, for the images inside the site.
  2. It has a toy play with, or a movie to look at, maybe while it's preloading images.
  3. it's such a mind blowing graphic, it just has to be on a splash page.

Do you meet one of these? at the moment I'd say no...

The page isn't a pre-loader, and there is nothing for me to play or do there I can only wait for a 61k graphic, that is nice but most would rather not wait for if they were on a dail-up modem, that's not me but I feel for them, I know what it's like, I once was there.

To make it simple, loose the splash page, change the bright white text... other than that it's nice..

another reason for a splash page... at least for clients...
to showcase a product... i'm not personally the biggest splash page fan.. but ALL OF THE BUSINESS OWNERS IVE DONE SITES FOR HAVE BEEN ...
or even flash intros.. like.. pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase..... well ok ive done a few that i dont mind.. cuz they are quick and they cookie so i never have to see them again.. but for the most part... blah ... if youw ant to have a splash page... make it something much more..... candy/clickable like... something that will turn your viewers into ren/stimpy (i cant remember which one) where they are in the spaceship and they cant hold themselves back from clicking the shiny button!
i hope that came out clear.. .............
overall its a nice start to your first what you would call presentable page thats for sure tho..

Saboter: Welcome. Perhaps the comments so far have been a little harsh but I think you get the point:

1. Splash pages do have their uses but they are massively overused and yours isn't really necessary.

2. Its an interesting idea for an interface but it has all been done before and somehow you manage to make such a clean bright colour as orange rather dingey.

Some other thoughts:

3. Fill in those TITLE tags - they are very important and gives a poor impression if they are left empty.

4. Your page is just slightly too wide for 800x600.

Actually I'll stop there for the time being (esp. as this is the third time I've attempted this review!!). I'm not sure what you are going to do with this site so different comments will apply. What I'd quite like to see is you expand on that splash page theme and work that into actual page design - its an interesting look and it could give you something interesting and distinctive (with a few tries and visits back here!!). Its a good start and you've got some ideas about where you want to take things so keep experimenting and we'll let you know what we think.
